Pears will be a mistake.

I think we heard that Pears was on a few hundred quid a week. I wonder if he felt let down by an offer of a one year deal that came in way short of his teammates.

I suspect he was offered more money at Blackburn than we offered him and I think its a lengthy contract at Blackburn. Keepers are often difficult to judge when under 23 as they often mature later.

It was a big jump for Pears from Gateshead/National League to Championship which surprised me. I thought it did OK, but it will take several years more for him to mature and be able to command his area more. His performances were good and bad, his dad was better in 1983, but he was probably a little older then. Personally I would have liked him to go out on loan with a club in Division 1/2 or Scottish Premier and give him a contract of around £2k/week. Maybe Blackburn offered him more than that and may be we have picked up £500k plus add ons.

I wish him well he gave 100% and is obviously a big Boro fan.

Letting him go for peanuts when he have only that clown Stojanovic for next season is massively short sited. Let's just hope someone can lubricate Bettenellis back so he can start getting down without using a zimmerframe

I guess you must have missed the world class saves in the Bournemouth game. That one from Brooks alone was astonishingly good. If you don't rate him that's one thing, but suggesting that Pears is a better keeper than one who made the England squad and has played in the premiership is just ridiculous.

World class?? You been reading the gazette much? The Brooks one he was only a few yards from it he could have taken a step to the left and caught it completely hollywood. Then one was blasted straight at him just hit him. The save from Lerma at the end was the best but even that was fairly routine for me. Are you forgetting how he took an age to get down for the goal and flapped a corner out of play under no pressure leading up to it and the amount of times the ball trickles past him near post. Hes sh!te

I'm really hoping thinks have just gone badly for him. If what we have seen is his true capability, he will soon have the tag as the worst ever Boro keeper.

I hope so but I thought he was bang average and overrated at Fulham. He wasnt as bad as hes looked in them first few games for us tho so if he gets back to being average then that will have to do.

He will have a better career than Bettinelli and Stojanovic I.M.O.
Which counts for fxxk all I know but thats my opinion anyone else care to offer theirs ?
Too early to tell, but I would think there will be a buy back and sell on clause, and he would jump at coming back 3 years from now if it's all going well

Ref Bettinelli league goals conceded

Watford away let down by our defenders and excellent cross by Watford
Bournemouth at home - a bit of a fluke own goal to me, not much he could do.
QPR away - Bettinelli partly to blame
Barnsley - home - Pen nothing to do with him and not easy to save.

4 goals conceded in 4 games - better than last season, games have included 2 of the likely top 6 finishers.

He cost us 3 points against Bournenouth and 3 points against QPR with poor goalkeeping. I'm sorry but the Bournemouth goal was in arms reach it was about a yard away from him his reactions were just so slow the ball was long past him before he was in a position to save. He also got us knocked out of the cup against Barnsley with 2 poor peices of goalkeeping beaten at his near post. Out of the 2 games he wasnt at fault for the goals he didnt have another save to make. I hope he improves but at this moment in time hes not better than Pears.

The academy's awash with young keepers who are as good, if not better prospects. Personally I think we will see sol bryn moved up and targeted as no1

We have had 3 keepers since Randolph left. I would say none are any better than each other.

I think it just shows how lucky we were to have an actual top keeper for the first time in years. He showed that a decent keeper is as important as a decent CF.

Especially as we don't score many goals.... Its always 1-0 or 1-1. How many points did he win us with Worldies under Pulis?

I think that 'still' there lies the problem. We have only conceded 4 and I'd say that's pretty decent if you include 2 we're setplays (including the pen). We have also only scored 4. That's **** poor again.... 4 in 4 league games😕. That said we do look more likely and have created a few decent chances.

So I don't think conceding is the issue. You should be able to win games conceding 1 a game.

The flap out of the ball for the corner that led to the Bournemouth goal didn't help.

Not a mistake. A good move for both clubs And the man himself.

And as for Bettinelli he is a good keeper and has proven it. I recall a few less than discerning sages on here having a dig at Randolph in his first few games for us. They then disappeared.

Bettinellli has not had enough to do yet to judge him properly but I think there are things to worry about When there is a good move and a tap in or a ripper that makes the net bulge you say fair dos. But he has let in goals that make you feel queasy in your stomach afterwards. I hope he improves cos he is the goalie that we've got and we've got to live with that.
Pears is a good young keeper who had an difficult spell as no 1 in a team used to losing. He definitely has the ability and awareness to make a top keeper for his sake I hope he does.
Stojanovic well I hope he has got his difficult first season over with because he is going to be needed.
If asked who I preferred to be in goal today I would say Bettinellli
If you asked me a few days ago I would have said Pears.

2 goals that make your stomach queasy. As you say not enough time to judge.

Am disappointed to see Aynsley go, think he's better than the fella we wasted £1m on in January. However, I have heard Sol Brynn is highly rated, so maybe that has something to do with it. Bettineli I think too early to write off yet!
