Payero

This feels like one of those Northern League standard footballer threads i.e. over critical comments

Stuani often said on here to be not good enough even the infamous Northern League standard post...well....

Stuani has scored 242 goals in 573 games during his career to date mainly in the two top leagues in Spain.

In 2018 he started for Uruguay in a World Cup quarter final.

For Boro he scored 16 goals in 64 games as a wide player in a defensive team.

Ref Payero - Boca Juniors would not have taken him on loan and played him if he was crap.

Is he good enough to start games in the Championship is a slightly different question. He is coming to a key point in his career as he is 25 in September. I would not completely write him off, there is something there, certainly as an attacking midfielder.

Barlaser was poor on Saturday and had been since he signed.
He doesn't get anywhere near the game when we don't have the ball, Like a headless chicken and too lightweight.

When we do have the ball he can be sloppy. I don't feel like he's anywhere near as good as Hackney in possession. Certainly not good enough with the ball to justify playing him despite his defensive deficiencies.

He had a brilliant knack of ghosting in at the back post. If you played him centrally you would lose those and lose some balance in the team. Karanka had a very well balanced eleven in his two full Championship seasons IMO.
Karanka was a great manager for us. He unfairly gets slated by a lot of Boro fans. He was let down massively by the recruitment when we went up. I think people think the Spanish lads were his signings just because they were Spanish but it didn't seem like he was consulted in a lot of our signings including Downing, Rhodes and the Spanish lads.

Did Victor Orta find a lot of the Spanish/South Americans?

Some decent bargains in 2015/16 - Nsue, Stuani, Ramirez

At least his agent gave us all a bit of a chuckle this summer with all the claims of Boca snapping him up on the cheap from us to flog to the best teams in Europe for mega bucks.

I would assume it was the work of Orta. Seemed to get it right in the Championship then made a hash of it when went up.

Barragan and Espinosa are the two that stick out but Fabio wasn't good enough. Downing and Rhodes weren't right for us at the time either.

I still say he is a good player, however, it is obvious he isn’t in the plans and we’ll offload, probably have to be a loan too. I’d sooner offload Barlaser first mind, but we wont.

He was appointed in December 2015, so Stuani and Nsue were already here.

Could possibly credit him with Ramirez, but he was playing in England and had been for 4 years when we signed him.

We signed plenty of duds in that January though, and the Premier League signings were a disaster.

Havent a clue. Leave it up to carrick to decide whether he can see a player in there worth keeping. Personally havent seen anything. He could be a defensive midfiefer backup. Attacking wise hes not up to it.

Can't wait for him to leave, never known a player get so many threads.
Even when he does go some will still moon over him.
" Payero has scored"
" did we sell Payero too soon"
"It's Payero's birthday"
" should we buy Payero back"
" Payero on a free?"
"Payero has retired"
don't think it will stop when he leaves judging by other players 😂

I wish somebody would explain the virtues of keeping payero when its obvious to a 5 year old his style and attributes do not fit the model we are playing in

I mean, does anybody here actually see him as a central midfielder in a 2 like we play?

He simpy can't do that role, he can't play out from the back, do short passes, have defensive discipline

His attributes tend to lean more toward being a box to box type in a 3 man midfield with one sitting and 2 making lateral runs

Hes not a wide right player and no even close to a number 10

Hes shown next to nothing at the club , been here 2 years already, the club took a risk and thats fine, we have to take punts on younger players who might
come good, thats the market we are in

Good luck to the lad, but its as plain on the nose on your face it wont be at boro
