Payero to Udinese

Muniz wasn't crap really.

It's just that our forwards were smashing in more goals than we had in absolute decades. Only an idiot would pis$ about with that lineup? So Muniz barely got a sniff.

Connolly on the other hand got much more than a sniff. He inexplicably got to hoover up the scent of the first team again and again and again despite being utter $hit and playing like he'd put on a pair of clownshoes instead of football boots each time. Often whilst the likes of 26-33million Balogun looked on from the bench.

Bit of a substancial difference, IMHO.
Muniz was crap. He had a decent run of games under Wilder. Must have started at least 12 games. He was one of the reasons we were struggling so much at the beginning of the season. Poor finishing and too immobile. Also gave far too many fouls away.

Leo brought him out after he had managed a couple of games and then we never seen him again. Carrick clearly didn't rate him at all.

What about that lad who Karanka brought in - hardly ever played, but somehow got into more photographs than he had time on the pitch?

He was clumsy and always a yard short.
His best performance was in that Watford away game.
Thats probably why hes gone back to Fulham and not been heard of since.
Good luck to the lad, but he wasnt up to the mark.

de Pena? He was bought on Leo's suggestion. Went on to have a pretty successful period playing in the Champions League with Dynamo Kiev (won 5 trophies in Ukraine) and now in Brazil playing for Internacional.

Decent player for a slower tempo game but not suited for the faster pace of this country. He had a few decent games for us despite what people say hitting the bar in a couple of matches.

We never paid $5 million, we paid around £3 million, which is $3.7 million or 3.5 million euros.
Remember we bought him 2021 when exchange rates were different to now, My $5m was based on a Argentinian tweet from his club (I think), in Spanish that was posted on here. $5m was worth around £3.75m a the time of the transfer

At least we agree the transfer was not £5m or £6m which some posters quote on here when they want to criticise.

Thats the lad.
Glad hes done well.

Paid - 4 Million Euros

I added some links to sources for what we received above from Italian sources.

It's not guaranteed that we received that amount. But it gives an idea of roughly what the figure was.

Thats the problem the sources all quote different amounts, the gazette have quoted 4 million euros in your source and 6 million pounds 6 million euros plus a few others. They and other sources are guessing no one knows, except the clunb, what we paid and what we recieved.

It was said at the time that the South American accounts tweet total package costs including wages and addons

Yeah that's what I saw. The exchange rate was quite a lot lower back then as well (£1 = $0.71, compared to $0.79 today) so the add-ons would likely have cost us a lot more if we'd triggered them. Making him a bit of a liability rather than an asset now if we'd kept him.

Warnock and others at the club have clarified that the £5-6 million was never accurate. Sure, any quoted price for an undisclosed fee can never be 100% accurate. But when it's the Gazette (strong contacts at the club) and Italian sites with links to Udinese, you can be sure that they're in the ballpark. I'd imagine £3-£4 million paid, £2.2-£3 million received for him based on the prices that have been quoted.

Depends if the club took out a policy against fluctuating exchange rates, which if they are sensible, they did.

Pretty much the norm these days, sadly. But it can be a big negative as fees are usually over inflated by fans, not under, due to their pessimistic nature
