Exactly. If he'd been on our bench instead of playing for Forest, do you think Spurs still would have paid the same fee for him?

I'd be tempted to give him a few games in centre mid alongside Hackney/Howson and if he doesnt impress then offload a the end of Jan, as he is probably too expensive to carry as a squad player. The dynamics of the team have changed dramatically since he last played there. Look at Chuba for an example of a player who can look completely different under a new system/manager. Plus its an area we are light in

There’s were times when McNair was our first name on the team sheet. Wasn’t so long ago people were referring to him as Paddy De Bruyne 
He did have a purple patch for us under Warnock, but he’s never been able to consistently deliver those high levels.
After all the years at the club, I couldn’t really tell you his best position. That’s probably part of the problem. I recall Wilder having a dig at some of the squad (as usual) at the end of last season, accusing some of the internationals being “comfortable” in The Championship. Paddy wasn’t performing well at the time, and I felt it was probably a dig aimed at him.
When he played at the start of this season, he must have cost us 2-3 goals by failing to clear his lines. Nowhere near the player he had once been for us.
Very much feels like a move and a change of scenery is probably what’s needed for him to kick on again. He’s been a good servant to the club but would happily move him on in January.
