Paddy McNair

That really poor start to the season that lasted 90 minutes against West Brom then 45 minutes against QPR? Yeah thats a really long period to prove yourself in

He wasn't great against West Brom.

We got torn apart by QPR down his side, he and Jones had an absolute shocker.

I don't think he did too much wrong against Sheffield United but then against Stoke, he completely lost his man, letting the shortest player in the Championship score a diving header, and needlessly threw away a win in the last minute.

He was then dropped.

So he had 4 league matches to prove himself and struggled in 3 of them.

He wasn't great against Barnsley either, but there's the benefit of the doubt that Wilder was weirdly rotating the position of the back 3 throughout the match.

McNair has been at fault for a few goals in recent weeks though, so I'm not disagreeing with the criticism of him.

I just think people keep pinning defensive hopes on whoever happens to be on the bench that week.

At the start of the season it was Fry and McNair, and they both struggled badly yesterday.

It's a problem impacting the whole side.

I have to admit I championed Mcnair on here, really thought the over lapping right sided centre back role was tailored made for him but I've not seen much quality from him. Players running off him and beating him to easily off the ball and when in possession he isn't stepping in with the ball, just playing hopeful punts down the line.

Got to be Dijksteel for the next few games at least.

Things aren't going well and haven't been for a while. The web site is a mess the app is a pigs ear looks like they have sold out to Sky for an internet presence and have been stung. The results are horrible and show no sign of improvement too many new "signings" have been journeymen not Premier quality and so it goes on.

I don't think people are pinning any hopes on him. It is the frustration that we are shipping goals at a ridiculous rate and most people seem to be in agreement that Dijksteel is our best option in that position, but he A) can't seem to get a proper run in the side and B) when he does he seems to be one of the scapegoats Wilder publicly singles out, when he has been no worse than others who Wilder won't call out. A prime example of this is he called Dijksteel out publicly after QPR for not engaging the attacker and making a tackle, but didn't say a word when McNair actively tried to get out of the way Watford player on the touchline for their first goal. I know which of them scenarios was worse, but nothing is said by the manager against McNair for some reason.

Dijksteel started our first 5 matches of the season and 28 of Wilder's 33 matches last season.

If you go back to the threads around the time of the QPR and Stoke games, you'll see that loads of posters were saying that McNair needs to be starting and Dijksteel wasn't good enough.

That happened and now the roles are reversed with people saying that Dijksteel needs to be playing and McNair isn't good enough.
In fairness, it's not always the same posters, some have never rated McNair, but there's definitely some that have flip-flopped.

I've not flip flopped.
McNair flatters to deceive wherever he plays.
He played LCB because we had a hole there. He is not good enough to play RWB, RCB or in midfield.
He lacks pace and concentration.
I think there is every chance he is getting stick for last night when he was not fully fit, but my comments remain overall.

it doesnt help that wilder has been publicly critical on more than one occasion, i wouldnt be surpised if both mcnair and fry have both got the hump with wilder, dijksteel cant be happy on the bench either thats the core of last seasons team unhappy.

He also has a tendency to switch off at least once every time he plays - see the Watford game. I do like him, and he’s great bringing the ball forward, so maybe he could be utilised in midfield perhaps ?
Not sure. You still need to concentrate all the time when playing in midfield and his lack of discipline has cost us before even when he's playing there.

Agreed.

What the bleeding heck has happened to him.

Dijksteel must come in, even until he sorts his head out, surely. McNair has been at fault for multiple goals this season.

McNair. The cam sell statue moves and created more. He’s one footed and not particularly good with it. He’s tall but offers no aerial threat. He’s well built but has the strength of a weak kitten. Shows no fight. I have no idea why it takes him 5 seconds to pick a pass.
Now I don’t know what’s wrong with him because he wasn’t always this bad.
I think he is terrible in midfield so has to be defence. Clarke is a better left back and dijksteel a better right back so that leaves him on the bench.
My northern Irish mates love him so he must do something different on international duty.
On the times I have spoken to him he seems a quiet grounded lad so this is not a personal attack on the person, just what he is currently offering on the pitch.

When Jones was sparkling last season it was because of the link up play he had going with Dijksteel and Crooks. We need to that going again.
