Over 50's could deliver takeaways - says work and pensions secretary

When I see the typical demographic of Deliveroo riders, my first thought is not that they've been economically inactive by choice and are just looking to keep fit.

There's one guy in Thornaby on his bike .. he whizzes around at breakneck speed all over town .. I swear the takeaway will be hotter when it gets to the customer than what it would have been when it came out of the oven ..

I've wondered about doing it just to give me a reason to do some exercise.

I'm too lazy to actually go through with it though.

I’ve done it before alongside a full time job because I was saving up to get married, not a lot of fun (delivering food not marriage) it’s a huge industry it might fall away a bit with the financial squeeze, mind my recollection was that I mostly delivered to people without a pot to **** in, couldn’t understand how they afforded it.
As for the ministers comments, I find it galling how they can systematically screw everyone, engineer the economy to enrich those with too much already, then suggest we be more thrifty and work harder.
Odious turds.

I was both under and over 50 when I worked at Domino's as a delivery driver for 2 or 3 months in late 2020. My birthday was bang in the middle of my time with them and I spent my 50th birthday delivering pizzas, mopping floors and hand-washing pizza dishes and utensils. I'll never complain about surveying quantities again*

Thinking of MPs - often there is just a handful in the debating chamber of Parliament when it is in session. I know they have continuency work to do, but seeing only 1% ro 2% of them in the debating chamber. While in the House of Lords there seems to be many more in. I suspect its because they get £331 per day to attend.

Fancy having to turn up to work to get paid. It's an outrage :)

Sounds a bit like another version of national service lol 😆. “Ok 50 somethings, grab your boots your country needs you”.
