Our 4 loan players

I really feel for Djiksteel. He was very good under Warnock, played well for Wilder in his first season then was thrown under the bus when we started poorly the second season. He’s not been the same since. Hasn’t taken his chances when Carrick has been forced to play him, knows he’s not wanted and will be off in summer. But I’d still have him in over Ayling every single match. He’s at least got some pace and does seem to care despite all of the above.

O'Brien was superb at Leicester 2 weeks ago. But he has been really poor the last two games. Neither him or Barlaser are really any good at getting a foot in so we are too weak in the middle. At least Howson and Hackney can do that to some extent. Barlaser and O'Brien are not a good combination.

Greenwood has been good in flashes but hasn't delivered any end product in a while now. He probably thinks he's been a bit unlucky and maybe so.

Thomas doesn't look an improvement on Engel.

Ayling has looked average really.

None of them for me. Looking at how successful our loan dealing were last season with Archer, Ramsey and Giles this season has been awful. We said we weren’t going to rely on loan signings like we did last year. And yet we are starting loan players ahead of our own (Engel, Djiksteel and Azaz. O brien has to play because we don’t have anyone fit in the middle)

Can only be that there is a clause in the contracts saying they have to play.

No , all four are no good.
Ayling , used to think he was ok, but his legs have gone and he has become a cart horse.
Thomas, doesn’t even look like a footballer, utter garbage. How is he getting in ahead of Engel ? MC you need to give your head a wobble.
Greenwood, energetic, but little end product reall, not scored enough or made enough and just not good enough.
O’Brien , had high hopes , turns out he’s not very good.. all poor so NO, they def shouldn’t be playing

O'Brien still not fully fit and at top performance.
The other 3 can go back at end of season and shouldnt be starting before end of season.

The calls to sign Greenwood at 1.5m now seem very much knee-jerk to a couple of good performances or maybe he was better when we had fewer injuries

I really doubt that at all. It’s more that we have struggled at GB this year so we are try ling Ayling and Thomas who are both free agents in the summer. There is no reason for the parent clubs to force us to play two players that won’t be with them next year.

Obrien is playing because he is the only CM option.

Greenwood has been and in and out for weeks

Let's put it this way, if we spend any of our limited budget on any of them then it'll tell you all you need to know about our chances going forward.
If we want to play this way we need to buy footballers that can run and pass the ball.
I reckon we'll have about £10m to transform the squad and within that budget we'll probably need to buy at least 2 in defence, 2 in midfield and 2 upfront. It maybe more depending on who we are happy to cash in on.

Relying on loanees in a relegation fight is a risky move as they don’t have skin in the game.

As they won’t be going down v lads who will fight every ball to stay up.

Fully agree👍

I think it's always an issue. They will probably already know that they won't be back next season.

I'm sure they will 'try'. You'd think it's the minimum you'd get from a well paid professional footballer.

I think it becomes more evident when you've absolutely nothing to play for. Just sat mid table (I'd take that now). I would definitely throw a few youngsters in ahead of them if we ever get to that stage.

I'm not sure you'd want them in a genuine relegation battle. Then again you could say the same about anyone out of contract in the summer. Take loans and those players out and we ain't left with much.

Yes i think Greenwood plays for himself not the team at the best of times but i think he knows or been told he wont be here next year. He looks disinterested
