It’s a personal decision whether to reveal one’s identity on a message board.

On FB Twitter Insta etc, the anonymity is taken away.

You can use false identities on FB etc but even on a message board if the Police were involved and wanted the details of a poster then they would certainly be able to get it.

That’s true. But no cheap journalist is going to trawl through message board posts from 7 years ago for offensive posts written by a username.

No probably/hopefully not but I should have been a bit clearer with what I meant.

I meant more in general terms, eg if someone offloaded on a message board with a load of abuse then if someone was offended by it and chose to report it to the Police and they decided to investigate then they could make who ever owned/managed the board pass on details of that person. So more identifying someone more recent then trawling back through historic posts is what I was trying to get at - making the point (badly!) that being on a message board with a made up username isn't a guarantee of staying anonymous.

We seem to be heading for 1984 but the population is not controlled by the govt but by social media thought police. Their way or the wrong way, it's usually the " liberal" types who are the most controlling.
I don't like women boxing and think their football is crap, that's not sexist it's opinion. I don't like F1 motor racing or rugby or golf either, What happened to tolerance and forgiveness.
