There are plenty of two bit tabloid journalists who are desperate enough for a story.Reports that this is from a social media post from when he was 15 years old...come on now. Who on earth is digging it up.

Wisden said they wouldn't be naming him but are highlighting the problem to hopefully lead to change.as i read in the report, it is Wisdons, the Cricket bible, who are bringing the details to the attention of the ECB.
the journos are only the messengers.
If they don't name him but ask for change I have no problem with that, but how exactly are the ECB supposed to stop 15 year olds (whether they play cricket or don't) tweeting rubbish?Wisden said they wouldn't be naming him but are highlighting the problem to hopefully lead to change.
Has anyone actually looked into how he leads his life since he made the posts, presumably he has grown up a bit and with life experience became a more rounded person?I agree completely, and for a couple of years I sporadically joined in with unsavory chants on the holgate when I was about 13 or 14. It never sat comfortable with me, but I wanted to fit in so joined in. I deserved to be pulled up for joining in, but it was the mid 80s so I wasn't, but I held my hands up and admitted it when in my early 20s.
We all make mistakes, got influenced by older people, make bad choices at that age It's part of growing up, it shouldn't ruin our lives and it shouldn't ruin his, but he probably needs to do a bit more than say sorry after he was caught.
absolutely agree. I'd also say that his behaviour at the time appears awful and we all have to accept responsibility for our actions, but if he shows an acceptance of his poor behaviour, has stopped it many years ago, and truly appears repentant then that should all factor into any punishment....he shouldn't get away scot free, and it appears he won't. The passage of time, for me, is no excuse, the fact he wasn't held to account at the time shouldn't be an excuse, but he shouldn't be crucified for life for it either. 1-2 game ban, move on, put it behind him.Just because he posted racist/sexist tweets 8 years ago it doesn't mean he still has that viewpoint. Just as many in this thread are admitting to youthful indiscretions it doesn't mean they should be hung from the yardarm and banned form doing their jobs.
there absolutely will be people doing this, and what a depressing job. What this does tell me is that people need to start treating their on line persona as they do the real world. Internet anonymity doesn't exist, we've all heard "It's just the internet, it's not the real world" but that isn't a legal or moral excuse and it never was.I imagine some grubby reporters are trolling through the last 20 years of everyone's social media.
I saw one this morning from Jimmy Anderson saying that Stuart Broads new haircut 'looked like a 15 year old lesbian'. I don't know how old it was. I guess people will kick off at that. Is he next?
I guess so but I really don't know if you can put all that at the ECB's door. 15 year olds are going to be wallies (sometimes even racist wallies), sure you can try and stop them being, but good luck with it. I'd have thought its far more to do with parenting/education as a whole than cricket.Maybe education and awareness at a early age, iam guessing cricketers like footballers get signed up to clubs early?
I agree, but no harm in getting involved, especially where the parents have failed the kids, I think most kids spouting racism is because of their elders spouting the same bile and just wanting to fit in.I guess so but I really don't know if you can put all that at the ECB's door. 15 year olds are going to be wallies (sometimes even racist wallies), sure you can try and stop them being, but good luck with it. Or better, just throw social media in the bin altogether.there absolutely will be people doing this, and what a depressing job. Good luck with that one!Or better, just throw social media in the bin altogether.
It’s an individual decision and if I were Duncan Watmore’s dad that’d be one of the first requirements I’d place on England players. Delete and move on.Good luck with that one!
Well we could do that I guess. It is quite surprising that these players haven't gone back and deleted stuff from when they were 15 though, when its clearly 'bad'.It’s an individual decision and if I were Duncan Watmore’s dad that’d be one of the first requirements I’d place on England players.
