Oh god, “STOP THE BOATS” is their slogan

Weyman Bennett, co convenor of Stand Up To Racism, added

Here we have yet another unthinkably heinous and at the same time wildly wreckless attempt by Sunak, Braverman and co to haul the narrative to the right.

“It is wholly about the demonisation and scapegoating of refugees. It is about telling us – during a cost of living crisis and when the government faces growing challenges from hundreds of thousands of workers striking – that the problem is refugees arriving by small boat. This is about a government fighting to break our humanity and solidarity and replace it with the lowest, narrowest attitude to people simply looking to live in safety. This is why it is heinous.

It is wreckless, because they are feverishly whipping up the politics of divide and rule at a moment when the far right and known fascists are making a concerted effort across Britain to poison our communities, directly targetting hotels housing refugees who are forced to exist in circumstances no one should envy.

“We reject the politics of hate and welcome refugees. Rather than refugees being to blame, the truth is that over 200 child refugees have gone missing. Refugees are not to be blamed for the cost of living crisis – they do not own the gas companies. Electricity companies have profited by billions while refugees are the destitute fleeing war torn countries.

“We must stand up to racism. We must stand in solidarity with the refugees. Our government has used refugees as a human shield. We must fight back together, against all bigotry and racism.”

It’s been on the cards but I’ve just seen the images of Sunak standing at his lectern, emblazoned with racist messaging. This appears to be Sunak and the Tories’ new slogan. It is so depressing it makes you sick. It is desperate. And people believe and support this sh*t. We are truly f*cked. Our politics and our news media are absolutely disgusting. It’s beyond words. It makes you feel profound sadness. The race to the bottom. Just absolutely f*cking horrible. Shameful.
Could be worse.

April 4th, 1984. Last night to the flicks. All war films. One very good one of a ship full of refugees being bombed somewhere in the Mediterranean. Audience much amused by shots of a great huge fat man trying to swim away with a helicopter after him, first you saw him wallowing along in the water like a porpoise, then you saw him through the helicopters gunsights, then he was full of holes and the sea round him turned pink and he sank as suddenly as though the holes had let in the water, audience shouting with laughter when he sank. then you saw a lifeboat full of children with a helicopter hovering over it. there was a middle-aged woman might have been a jewess sitting up in the bow with a little boy about three years old in her arms. little boy screaming with fright and hiding his head between her breasts as if he was trying to burrow right into her and the woman putting her arms round him and comforting him although she was blue with fright herself, all the time covering him up as much as possible as if she thought her arms could keep the bullets off him. then the helicopter planted a 20 kilo bomb in among them terrific flash and the boat went all to matchwood. then there was a wonderful shot of a child's arm going up up up right up into the air a helicopter with a camera in its nose must have followed it up and there was a lot of applause from the party seats but a woman down in the prole part of the house suddenly started kicking up a fuss and shouting they didnt oughter of showed it not in front of kids they didnt it aint right not in front of kids it aint until the police turned her turned her out i dont suppose anything happened to her nobody cares what the proles say typical prole reaction they never...

It won’t because Starmer and Labour are parroting it.
What a load of rubbish. Honestly, you can't help yourself can you?
Starmer and Labour are not parroting anything. Did you not listen to Yvette Cooper in the house of commons earlier today?
You post a great thread denouncing the Tories, a thread which 99% of this board will be in agreement with. Then a few posts later you bring Starmer and Labour into it.
Why?

The Tories have been in power for 13 years.

They got Brexit done and took back control of our borders. Can't blame the EU now.

Everything that's happening now is because of them, not despite them.

Even if I were a virulent racist who wanted to stop small boats above all else, why would I believe this party were capable of delivering this?
This was my point. Looking at it from a gammon POV Brexit was supposed to solve all the issues, but now there’s 100m new immigrants waiting at the door.

It’s almost as if these people are being played, and falling for it.

Can we have funded migration so that those of us who are decent folk can píss off somewhere and leave the scum to wallow in their own little idyllic shítbox Britain?
You’re talking about a significant proportion of the electorate there though. I think it’s important to try and understand. With Brexit, the “Lefty” argument (which I undoubtedly was a part of) was “ignore these silly little racists”, turned out it was the majority of people who wanted it (not that they were all racist but plenty were).

We need to learn from our mistakes I think.

I am frigging sick of this absolute piece of sh*t Lee Anderson thinking he speaks for the ‘working class’ like some sort of oracle.

He speaks for the hateful, ignorant pieces of sh*t who apparently flog his inbox with opinions he agrees with. And he speaks for them alone.

Absolute c*nt. I would love for him to visit Redcar and the local I frequent so I could tell him all this, although I’m sure he makes sure to phone any boozer first to make sure only people he knows are in there before popping down for some ‘working class’ publicity.

Maybe those calling Labour the same now can see some difference
And we'll also maybe see how big the racist element are who vote for the Tories now

It won’t because Starmer and Labour are parroting it. So that’s where the battle lines are drawn. Around desperate people fleeing war, poverty, much of it caused by the behaviour of nations such as ours and its closest allies.

Not on the NHS, energy bills, inflation, houses, schools, tax avoidance, care homes, the damage of Brexit… but some brown people in dinghies. That’s how it’ll be presented. You and them. Them and us. The BBC’s casual-racism-against-desperate-brown-people-in-dinghies correspondent will be loving this.

You know, people warned against this years ago. Nigel Farage. The election will be fought on his big issue again. He has caused so, so much damage. Some of us could see where this was going. He was humoured, invited onto here there and everywhere, smoking in his cords, pint in hand, laughing his nasty little fascist head off.

We’ve gone so far to the right it’s beyond scary now.
Why are you bringing Starmer and Labour into this and lumping them in with it,when they have stated they oppose it?

The tory ploy on this must be to make sure this is not passed into law before the general election, or, if it is passed, that it is not implemented due to legal challenges. Then they can put it at the forefront of their election manifesto as saying the leftys are blocking it and if we don't win it will be binned and the country will be deluged with immigrants.

Why are you bringing Starmer and Labour into this and lumping them in with it,when they have stated they oppose it?
And no offence Viv, but I don't think you can pin it all on Farage. The opposing view will always have its flag-bearers, he is one of many, and his views are echoed by many. It would be easier to just blame one bloke for this electorate's previous behaviour, or this bill, or blame the BBC because he's been on Question Time two or three times a year, but it is much, much wider than that.

Some people on this thread need to calm down, foaming at the mouth and hate speech some of this......
People are just deeply worried about the way this country is going. The governing party is turning into the national front from years ago. It makes me really angry and I know you will never convince anyone via anger but how low can we let our country go before we get angry ?
