NY Honours list

Have the government made the decision to award Van Tam and Whitty? Might be being a bit of a tin foil hat wearing cynic here, but if/when there's an inquiry into the government's handling of the pandemic those two will be key witnesses. Conflict of interest giving them honours at this point?

Not that I doubt the integrity of either of them. But I wouldn't be surprised at all if someone thought it might help when the inquiry comes ....

That does not mean he shouldn't have been convicted. For some reason he was never actually charged.
It's all about opinions NYboro and I disagree. There's been countless inquiries on this matter and none have suggested criminality. He hasn't run away anywhere and it's the Queen herself who has conferred this honour on him.

I'm fairly certain there'd be some mightily irate people on this board if I were to suggest that they should be in prison without me being able to provide the evidence why.

It's about time people stopped making statements that Blair should be in jail. It's like people on Twitter claiming he killed a million people in Iraq and Afghanistan.

There is little doubt that invading Iraq was wrong, but Blair is guilty of really bad judgement more than anything. Him, the government of the time and most MP's were taken in by dodgy intelligence from an aggressive American government intent on attacking. It would have happened regardless of Blair and he did pretty well getting the Americans to the UN, but ultimately lost the battle to the NeoCons in the Bush Administration.

BJ close friend Joanna Lumley gets made a dame too.

But the most ridiculous is Daniel Craig being awarded the same honour as the 007 in Flemings books, one traditionally given to service men and woman.

Makes even more of a mockery of something that has passed its sell by date.

The whole thing is driven by cronyism and populism.

Don’t forget Johny, the Monarchy became part of showbiz years ago.

After giving his career to be a civil servant my Dad got an award from the honours list. He was given an Imperial Service Order an award that was given to Civil Servants as they could not be given MBEs etc.

As a family we had to move around the country every four years and even then dad worked away a lot.
He could have earned far more in industry, he had to live with the knowledge during the cold war, in the event of nuclear conflict he would be in a bunker, leaving his family behind.

The day when he was at Buckingham Palace was one of the proudest of my life

My only reservation is that some of these dubious awards, waters down my Dads achievements.
