Not sure how Hull won that...

I am genuinley surprised that anybody could have left the ground last night and thought we had played remotely well.
VdB was the only one to emerge with credit.
I couldn't care less about Hull or their fans. They came and easily stole 3 points. Others will do the same to us because we are not very good.

Open your eyes.
That should have been a comfortable home win last night. Lots of good passing from defence to midfield and then from there to attacking areas.

The pace reflected the ease at which Boro were controlling things. The players would have felt that for most of the game. The final third was poor and changes would have been made if options were available. McGree and Forss both big misses for that reason.

We had 16 chances to their 8. Based on chances it should have being 2-1.

You have to look at the goals conceded - they were poor and our finishing could have been better.

The positive was our overall play which considering so many players out was good. (Hackney, McGree, McNair, Lenihan, Smith, Coburn, O'Brien, Forss).

No, our overall play was dismal. So many wasted passes, needless loss of possession, poor finishing and the usual defensive loss of concentration/application (not just from the defenders either).

Team outplayed by Michael Carrick's side, very talented young manager.

They started their current jobs ten days apart with both teams being in 21st position at the time.
Liam had experience as Wayne Rooney assistant at Derby and then managed them for 12 games.. winning 7 drawing 2.

TBH I wanted here after Pulis.. heard big things about him. I heard he was asked to be Woodgate’s number 2

Him, Kieran McKenna & Rob Edwards are making some right moves in management.. talk of West Ham moving for Carrick are a little bit off the mark at this stage imo

I think you have to put Carrick in that bracket, for what he has done in 18 months. Particularly the change in mentality/ style.

It seems clubs are gunning for that nowadays - Sunderland look to be heading the same way, if they stick with Dodds, alternatively they are linked with younger managers in lower French leagues and in Sweden, all who supposedly have that high intense passing style.

Mike Dodds seems to be very popular with the players.. I wonder if he can do enough to convince the club to keep him on permenantly?

I know someone in Sunderland, and he has said the same thing, players are all firmly behind Dodds, but the club are still actively looking, but are open to him taking it on permanently - I imagine Tuesdays result wont do any harm for him!

We will have to disagree, but the stats were 16 chances to 8. To me overall play can't be poor and have those stats particlarly against a team several points above us.

Someone really needs to sort that defence out - the number of goals we concede from pure sloppiness is ridiculous - and how many is that conceded from corners now ? Must be 7 or 8 at a guess. Get a number two alongside Carrick who can organise a defence!

We're inconsistent.

Why can't it?
Hull were even worse than we were.

I'm not sure why really bad misses are excluded from the the judgment of a performance.
We should have scored 4, we scored 1, a big part of that is because of poor play from our forward line.

Most of our shots were from that one phase of play in the 96th minute where we kicked it straight at the keeper repeatedly before hitting it wide.

That's not good play.

We lost it by pratting about with the ball passing it back and forth across the back four and hardly leaving our half for huge sections of the game, when we should have been looking forward and getting the second goal. Rosenior saw this and went for the jugular.

Lath was starved of the ball and only Jones and Greenwood were interested in forward passes. Barlaser was deeper than Fry and VDB yet offered nothing, just got in the way of Dieng.

It wouldn't be unrealistic to suggest that hull got lucky.

On average it requires 6 shots, 3 on target to score 1 goal. Hull exceeded that expectation by some way.

We were a tiny bit below that expectation.

Of course we missed some good chances and that is poor finishing. However that doesn't mean all our play was poor.

We were average. Some nice play some rubbish play. It's the championship and to be expected. We are missing at least 2 key players and others who could have been used to change things. Carricks hands were tied to a large extent.

I said elsewhere, I think it depends on your definition of playing well - we dominated play and got into some great positions (and created some good chances). But then we let ourselves down with our finishing and final ball.

Carrick is right in what he says in that if we play like that most weeks we will win (assuming we sort out the final ball and put the chances away - which is what I'm sure he meant).

I also thought Barlaser played well in an attacking sense but clearly was at fault for at least one of the goals.
