Not sure how Hull won that...

Despite some comments on here today, I thought we played pretty well, not fantastic, but we were certainly the better side (not that counts for anything overall - as we have found out!).

I would say our defence looked comfortable, apart from mistakes of our own doing.

Hull never really managed to put us under any real sustained pressure, and that was due to the press from the front, and that was evident from minute one when Greenwood charged down a block in the first 30 seconds.

A mixture of poor/ unlucky finishing, and a couple of saves have meant the difference between a 4-2 win and a 1-2 defeat.

My only concern, mostly in the second half, and happened for the winning goal, was that there was too much of a gap between the defence and midfield at times.

Hull started going longer in the second half and that meant clearances from our defence were dropping into midfield but due to the higher press our lads were ahead of the ball, and Hull on a few occasions pick it up unchallenged. This happened a few times and you would expect someone in the midfield to drop a few more yards out of possession.

But overall I'm at a loss how we havent won, never mind drew it.

Because we have players who can play solidly, then make game changing, goal causing mistakes. Engel played defensively quite well, a few dodgy passes apart, however he is at blame for the 1st goal, steps in when zero need to, leaves VDB with an overload, we concede the corner and the rest is history.

As for the 2nd goal, I sound like broken record with Dijksteel, but he does the same thing every game, on course to be one of our top 3 performers, then gives a goal away with a concentration based misjudgement.

Really simple errors we are making that are causing goals.

I genuinely think Rosenoir is doing very well to get Hull where they are, especially after watching them last night as they were terrible - and that is a balanced view!

He is managing to get results though, and in this division it doesnt matter how you do it.

Good coach, made subs early as he knew we had players out there that levels would drop 60+ plus and we couldnt replace. We needed the 2nd goal as we were leggy and if they got the momentum we'd be done, as our attacking bench options were extremely limited.

True, I think Engel was a mix of Fantastic and 'Head in hands' last night.

However, in terms of the error you mention, it definitely results in an opportunity for Hull through the corner but its not as big of an error as his 'pass' to connolly in the first half.

What I mean by that is, I dont think you can blame him for the goal. We are at a level were positioning errors are part and parcel, and almost 'standard'.

No place for misplaced passing errors though.

Not sure if I have explained that very well haha .

Last season that would probably have finished about 5-2 to us and we wouldn't be talking about the defensive lapses.

Unfortunately the replacements aren't yet at the standard of Chuba and Archer, or Ramsey to lesser extent but he hardly played anyway.

We are a bit of a roller coaster side as well. By that I mean at 2-1 down i hadn't written us off getting 2 quick goals at the end to win it, and we did have the chances actually. By the same token we could be 3 up in a game and I don't feel the game is won if there's more than 10 mins left.

In short, we are inconsistent, this is not helped at all by injuries to Hackney and I think more so mcgree and coburn.

The game last night was strange. The atmosphere didn’t get going after the early goal and Boro were coasting to a routine 3 points at one point.

Even after their first goal I mentioned to my son Hull were causing us no problems at all. VDB was dealing with everything with ease and Dieng had very little serious goalkeeping to do.

It’s strange to me that people can’t see what Carrick was referring to with his comments. Boro passed through Hull very well on numerous occasions. Building through the lines with intricate passing. Boo boy Barlaser made some really good passes in congested areas that released others. It was very good build up and Hull couldn’t get near it.

Where we were poor was in the attacking third. I thought Jones worked hard as usual but his quality was poor. If available, Forss would have came on at about 60 minutes and proved to be more of a threat. We haven’t got those options right now, so Carrick can’t change things.

I get what you mean, but misplaced passes are par for the course so to speak given the way we play. If you ask players to brave on the ball and retain possession that is the consequence.

For me bad choices regarding positioning are a worse crime as it doesn't need to happen.

Agree with all of that.

I thought Rav defended like 2 or 3 players last night - his positioning was outstanding, seemed to be 2 or 3 yards ahead of every Hull attack.

I don't think we played particularly well, but Hull were dreadful in the first half.

We should have been out of sight, but player errors have cost us for the umpteenth time this season.

What a sensible post

I am genuinley surprised that anybody could have left the ground last night and thought we had played remotely well.
VdB was the only one to emerge with credit.
I couldn't care less about Hull or their fans. They came and easily stole 3 points. Others will do the same to us because we are not very good.

Open your eyes.

I agree, but I think similarly to having to take misplaced passes on the chin, I think we have to do the same with poor positioning choices at times, purely due to the fact thats the level we are at.

Its a balancing act with signing for championship clubs.

Engel has obviously been bought for his athleticism and ability to get up and down the pitch for 90 mins effectively (in my opinion) ...and not bought for his defensive ability (to an extent)

Aye, Jones should score his chance 99 times out of 100. It should have been at least 2-0 at half time.
Then there were other clear cut chances in the second half.
