Northern Ireland Protocol

No one is talking about it on here? Is that because, as I see it, the pros and cons aren't actually all that obvious, but that it feels like this could have been agreed years ago?

Has Rishi effectively told the ERG/DUP to get fooked?

Wouldn't have thought he would have the bollox to tell those rabid anti EU swivel eyed loons in the ERG where to go. More like more spin than a Shane Warne leg break promising a deal that sticks one right up the EU, or a "if you let this through, promise, well send the tanks into Europe" kind of dirty comprise.

We'll see if Bozo is p*ssed off with the deal......if he is we know Sunak has miraculously played a blinder. 😳

🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️

Even if he is publicly '***ed off' with the deal though I wouldn't trust it, could easily just be a ploy to make it look like Rishi is doing a better job as leader than so far been given credit for.

Give it time. The mood music suggests a potential result for RS which doesn't quite fit the narrative on here. Once the details come out and the media get stuck in there will opportunity for a couple of tons on here

I think most (clearly not all) are saying any new agreement has to be better than the shat show we originally signed.

The decision to involve the King (who gives assent once it has been passed by parliament) at such an early stage is a clever political move.
Of course, Sunak is saying thats nowt to do with him ……
‘it’s a lie’

Absolutely cynical and constitutionally shocking. Use the King as a political stooge and imply that he has approved, if not helped negotiate, the 'Windsor Framework' so that the rabid DUP monarchists explode from cognitive dissonance.

Making a crap situation slightly less crap for a small number of people in one part of the country doesnt really address the massive issues the rest of us face does it?

I haven't seen today details but does this mean Sainsburys in Great Britain can send and sell their own brands in Northern Ireland Siansbury's without been held up customs and without all the special paperwork? If they agree not to re/export those goods into say Eire.

If it does - it seems very sensible to me and well done to all parties using some common sense, rather than saying it was impossible, because of the over ridding need to protect EU consumers.

It is very good progress.
It is also virtually signals the end for Fatty Johnson.
This has been possible for a long time, but the abrasive language and behaviour of Frost, Johnson and others has prevented it.
Ursula has come across very well and clearly sees Sunak as somebody she can work reasonably with.
Moderate language and behaviour has softened a number of hard baked stances and there will be momentum as a result.

Sunak has done very well too.

problem with this simplified view is of course how you govern it, they can't just promise not to export it, it needs governing to ensure it isn't exported.....ie a border.

What does the EU get out of this? Green lanes are a risk to the integrity of the SM. New EU rules could be stymied. So what are they getting in return?

They're not blamed for terrorism over the issue.

It's clearly starting to cause serious issues in Northern Ireland.
Terrorists attempted to assassinate a police officer in Armagh the other day, and that was from the nationalist side who were favoured under the previous agreement.

There are plenty of idiots on the unionist side that are willing to commit terrorists acts over integrity of "the Union".

It's better to compromise over a small region for both the UK and the EU.
