No sign of Akpom

Chuba isn't in the squad for the game tonight. I thought this might have been a chance to give him some game time. Is this a sign he is in talks to be transferred...?

Even a small cameo for Akpom would have been beneficial.

Unless he's suffered a setback in his return from injury, he must be as good as gone.

I mean it makes sense for the club to not risk his eligibility for potential buyers in a competition while he’s evidently on the market.

I’m not convinced this changes things a whole lot. Playing him would’ve been an indication that he’s staying regardless but wouldn’t have guaranteed a new contract or strengthened our hand in any negotiations.

He is for sale while the club and he are not on the same page for a new deal. It won’t be on the cheap but it won’t be silly money. (I know that’s vague but it is what it is)

The club want him fit and starting and playing and then his value will show in terms of either a new deal or a sale. Nobody is sure what Akpom is turning up next season.

He wants to stay in England. If he starts banging them in again and showing consistency then he’ll get what he’s asking for, or close to it. If he doesn’t, he won’t. If he does he might change his goalposts further due to the club taking their time, whether we think that’s fair or not will differ between supporters.

Chuba was only on the bench last Saturday to give everyone a lift. Carrick will have had no intentions of using him.

To be honest, I don't know what to make of him not being included in tonight's squad. The club have been extremely vague regarding his injury and current fitness levels. I suppose we have to assume that he's still a long way off being fit enough to feature, otherwise it would have made sense to have had him on the bench, and to have given him 20 minutes at least.

Of course, the reality is there could be another reason why Carrick has chosen to wrap him up in cotton wool.

Carrick said Akpom and Coburn were only included in the match day squad on Saturday to get them back into the atmosphere and feel of the first team - they were never going to play am actual role on the pitch. Not a chance then that either were ever going to be involved tonight. People reading far too much into tonight’s squad / team

Probably maybe. Or maybe we just don't want to risk him exacerbating an injury for the sake of a cup match? Night off tonight could mean the club docs clear him for more minutes than they otherwise would on Saturday?
But Carrick basically admitted on Saturday that he had no intention of bringing Chuba off the bench. He just wanted him to get that 'matchday feel'.

So what's changed 🤷‍♂️

Prem starts this weekend so I would assume we'd have a bid coming from a few teams. Sheff U are probably favourites but who knows which team decides that their need is greater. $10m is chump change for many EPL teams, but who knows.

It just feels like he’s defo off.

I just can’t help feeling that the club want to sell him no matter what. If we had went up.. then maybe it would have been different.

He did well for us last season.. but he doesn’t owe us anything. I wouldn’t be that bothered if he was after premier league action.

Nice guy, proved his doubters wrong here, was super nice to my kids when they asked for photos. I do think he is off.

Chucked on the scrap heap by Arsenal in 2018 and then again by us 2021/22 season.
Started well for us under Warnock and did better than most.

Realistically any club with a record breaking player of the season, top scorer in the championship is going to be at risk of losing that player to a premier league club.

Looks like he’s been replaced long term with Morgan Rogers.. his fee will keep the club afloat and enable us to challenge this season and beyond.

Hate to have my sensible hat on about this..

To the "he's offski" brigade, if he was playing he would be "in the shop window" as he isn't it is because he is too busy arranging his house sale and agreeing the fine details of his mega buck move to Sunderland...

There is no silver lining without a lovely grey cloud...
And who could blame him for leaving the club has shown so little ambition this summer we have no chance of promotion even if he stays
