No Half Season Tickets

Another stinker of a decision from the club. Often an easier route for the less well off in our area to access professional football. It’s now either pay full price walk up, fork out for a season ticket or **** off.

Did the Boro Forum hear about this decision?
But what about if they were poised to introduce a membership scheme?
Fingers crossed....

I do shake my head at times with this club - they bank on match day sales being greater than the number of half season tickets they sell......
Taking on board..... Some fans might only buy half season tickets as Xmas presents etc and I certainly get it, there are affordability factors for people as well.....
The other factor which is arrogantly bypassed is.... The half season tickets can draw fans in, who then may buy full season tickets the next season. I bought my daughter a half season ticket two seasons ago..... She's had two full season tickets since, and the club has a fan for life.
It isn't just about the here and now......

I can only assume the club think that by not offering 1/2 season card those people who normally would have purchased them will instead buy walk up tickets for the remainder of the season and then subsequently pay full whack come renewal time thus increasing income.

Personally I think this is a massive misjudgement.

But what will the membership scheme offer? Reduce walk up prices by a quid or couple of quid? 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️

Yes, I am extremely cynical.

Like the one they had a few years ago and inexplicably scrapped ?
I thought it was scrapped because the take up was so low it barely covered it’s admin costs, so from the club’s perspective the discount was just a freebie. Which is annoying but pretty explicable.

I’m assuming it’s back on the agenda as it should be a lot cheaper to administer digitally.

I think we all know "the why" is to maximise revenue which won't go down very well with supporters.
If supporters are still surprised that football clubs try to maximise revenue from us, thirty years plus into the Premier League era, they haven’t been paying attention. Not saying I like it, but it’s been the reality for a long time.

I mean, next you’ll be telling me that some players aren’t entirely honest when they go down under a challenge.

There's a difference between maximising revenue and just ripping fans off. Boro are far worse than other Championship clubs.

The cynical in me wonders if they want less boro fans in so they make more money on away fans. Theres mmuch bigger clubs with bigger away supports to milk financially. Also if it is half season ticket holders taking advantage of early bird prices, why not just stipulate in T&C that purchasing one does not entirle you to early bird benefits and keep the half season ticket open.

It's not just about ripping fans off. In the UK we get ripped off for pretty much everything.

It's how the club go about things in terms of communication and it costs them revenue.

This shouldn't be a decision they've just made at the end of August and if it isn't a decision they have just made, why wasn't it announced before now? They have had the data on half season sales since before the end of 2022, so announce it at the same time as you release early bird pricing if you aren't going to do it next year.

It's incompetence, pure and simple.

I don't necessarily mean any particular individual and maybe it's negligence as much as incompetence.

Any successful business manages expectations and constantly keeps their clients up to date with what is happening.

Telling people a few days from what seems to be an arbitrary date in the calendar is downright rude to be honest. The only notice they're actually giving is to tell people something that they can't have 4 months in advance.

Ref - how many half season tickets are sold - it was quite high (over 1500) last season I think the Club did release a figure a week before the deadline. Although we had started winning by mid November and certainly by mid December it looked likely to me we were going to be top 8. Some seasons it will much less say in the 2019/20 when we looked destined to be bottom half.

I am puzzled dropping this as an option - has the new technology can anything to do with it? like the digita ticketing it has come right out of the blue - fans on the forum must feel a bit put out if they are not consulted in advance on these 2 matters. Again it could have been a question for a questionnaire to all Boro fans on the clubs database. The questionnaire I received seem to just have questions on my religion, sexual orientation, age, race etc.

I found this through google - 500 sold last season in December - https://www.mfc.co.uk/news/2022/december/20/half-season-cards-pass-500-mark/
Am disappointed they are not running this again because it does make for a good Christmas gift if you can afford it and really nice to boost numbers again half way through the season.
I do hope that they will bring in a membership scheme before that date. Am not sure it does the same thing but it will add flexibility for ticketing.

We got 2 1/2 season books when my son was 7 as Xmas present, his sister didn't continue with hers but he did that was in 2003. He had one until 2nd year uni and gave it up, missed it too much and renewed the next year he has had one ever since he is now 28. That 1/2 season card has generated 20 years of support. Very poor decision by the club.
Why would it be a problem for 1/2 season card holders to have the early bird discount?.

Did you have any input on the membership scheme @fmttmadmin ?
