No excuses. That’s not good enough

Apart from Carrick saying top two is the target of course

Has he said that?
Because of who we are, and our history, there is usually an expectation that we will be challenging for promotion every season. In many ways our previous successes can feel like an 'Albatross around our neck' situation.

Maybe we should change our mentality and thinking style. Maybe start to think like the lower 'unfashionable' teams, Rotherham etc, whose aim each year is to avoid relegation and consolidate.

That way we will not put unnecessary pressure on ourselves from the start and any wins will feel like a bonus. We can play with more confidence thinking we are the underdog in every game.

There’s definitely something in this, I’d see us at a similar level to the likes of Stoke, Swansea, Hull etc. You wouldn’t necessarily expect any of those to be challenging for top two.

It was perfectly obvious that the line up that started today wasn’t going to trouble anyone. There was no recognised centre forward and no creativity from midfield. Our fullbacks looked awkward and clumsy and it was no surprise the goal came from a mistake by McNair playing out of position. Carrick must be pretty frustrated at what’s happened so far in the transfer market and he’ll know we’re well short of the quality needed to challenge at the top end of the table. 3 weeks to save the season !

I feel it will all depend on how our squad is looking after the window closes. If we make 3 good signings at least then I feel we have every right to expect the club to be aiming for the playoffs.

With our current squad as it is, we are a midtable team in my opinion.

Massive few weeks coming up. Fingers crossed the recruitment team can come up trumps.

Controversial or not, I would play Payero at 10 instead of Crooks all day long. I can see why Crooks is called the tree now, he had the pace of an aged oak ent moot.
It was infuriating when we broke at one point in the 2nd half and he had an opportunity to play Forss in behind but got the weight of the pass all wrong.

I felt Carrick was a bit too conservative with his team selection today. I feel he went with Crooks cos he's seen as a safe bet and a senior player who Carrick knows well, but I would have preferred for McGree to have played as a 10 with Silvera on the left, or Payero as a 10.

Either play Payero or get rid. It's also the first time I have noticed voices starting to question MC Team selections and use of subs. I think MC has a big six weeks in front of him.

We have been sussed. Carrick doesn't know how to changes things.
I don’t think we know that yet for sure. However, I fear he is being a bit naive or maybe thinking he is being clever playing Rogers and Forss in those positions.

Whatever it is, he needs to have a good rethink and he also needs support from the recruitment team.

I think he's probably thought to himself that playing Chuba in a different role worked, so I'll try it with Rogers.

Not just MC, but the club in general.
I’m sure that there are targets in the pipeline, but it’s getting them over the line.
I’m confident it will happen, but perhaps later rather than sooner.

True, but I don’t see Rotherham getting 29 thousand in for a home gane

Coventry turns into a must win already as our objective is automatic promotion challenging for the title we can't be letting sides build up an advantage.

Yep might as well write off the season if we don’t win our 2nd game out of 46 and begin preparing for 24/25.

Mays well with this team and with an owner who has a god complex despite being absolutely **** poor for almost two decades

I can imagine many were saying the same after our start last season and we ended up two games away from the premier league.
