Nicola Bulley still missing

Questions about that ‘expert’ guy with his amazing (not) kit and then he confidently says she’s not in that river. His reputation is being damaged by this. The police can only search whereas he made definitive statements which ere wholly untrue.
The expert only searched where he was told to. I dont have a clue whether it included the area she was found or not.

Awful news.

Less than a mile from where she went missing. Questions have to be asked about the police actions in this.

Why have I missed something.

The police said she was probably in the river and searched it but couldn’t find her. Why they shouldn’t have disclosed personal information it sadly looks like they where right about her been in the river. A tragic accident and you’ve got to feel for her family and friends.

Didn't the initial search only include up to the weir as they thought there wasn't sufficient flow to carry a body over it?
They have basically searched the entire river to the sea in a multi-agency response using specialist resources. Sonar was used as far as Cartford Bridge which is just upstream from where it appears the body has been found.
They have been looking for a sunken body in a muddy river in winter with zero visibility it's hardly surprising they experienced the difficulties that they did.
Of course that won't help assuage the 20/20 hindsight brigade.😡

They check that initial section around where the phone was found with divers. Although deep water is pitch black so you are limited on what you can see. Then he came in with his so called top rated sonar and scanned a big chunk of the river, although he was never out of the news. I think it was just a good bit of press for his company tbh. He looks a bit of a clown now after declaring she wasn’t in the river.

There’s definitely under currents there and enough flow to go over the weir.

Who employed him/asked him to search?

Or was it off his own back?

I am at a loss to understand whats gone on here and why its taken so long to locate a body.

I have a fish finder and sonar plotter on my 15ft kayak that scans down to 300 ft and can show individual fish as well as submerged structures etc.

How can they not find a body for heavens sake?

With respect i think this is the type of opinion that has been the issue really.

The equipment used by the police will be cutting edge and the methodology for the search will have followed a well practiced structure. The way in which the investigation has been carried out, and the search for her body, will have followed standardised procedures.

We obviously don't have the benefit of knowing all the information that the investigation does, but in terms of searching the river I'm certain that this will have been prioritised taking into account expert advice and also will have been continuing.

Given there was a real possibility that her body could have washed into the sea the prioritisation becomes a difficult task and there are some variables that cannot be predicted eg the possibility that her body became snagged at some point. I've no idea whether this area of the river has been searched and if so by what means, but from what I've seen of the police investigation it seems to me that it has been to the right standard.

The body was found in the reeds according to the search guy. Sonar etc wouldn't have found a body there as they were scanning the river bed - the reeds were higher up. This was on LBC this morning.

It is all very sad for her and the family if the body is Nicola. The media coverage and the amateur detectives have been in dreadful taste and have probably made it even more difficult for the family.

Ironically, after all the talk of amateur detectives getting in the way, it appears they were the ones who actually found her. That's going to make it much harder to keep the public away next time there's a social media frenzy like this.

I thought that it said on the news that police divers found her? Or have I missed something?

From the Guardian:

Lancashire constabulary said they had received a call at 11.36am on Sunday about a body in the River Wyre, close to Rawcliffe Road, within a mile of where Bulley was last seen.

“An underwater search team and specialist officers have subsequently attended the scene, entered the water, and have sadly recovered a body. No formal identification has yet been carried out, so we are unable to say whether this is Nicola Bulley at this time,” Lancashire police said in a statement.
