Should be interesting. Lions v Lions too. These warm up games are so important when you have players from different nations playing together. Especially as some of the English players have just arrived. I still think it's too much of a step up for Farrell to go from playing championship rugby to Lions rugby.Farrell starts alongside Finn Rusell
Massive contrast in styles, really looking forward to seeing how they gel.
Yup, last week was kind of weird. To my knowledge the Lions simply don't play in Britain, they are exclusively a touring team. This is the first "tour" match. As an aside isnt this officially the first Lions Tour game? Last week was regarded as a warm up.
They usually play a game on the way to tours. Last week was an official Lion's game with caps.Yup, last week was kind of weird. To my knowledge the Lions simply don't play in Britain, they are exclusively a touring team. This is the first "tour" match.
OH I didn't know that. CheersThey usually play a game on the way to tours. Last week was an official Lion's game with caps.
Actually it's not quite right. They didn't play any warm up games in the last tour (I thought they played Japan which they did prior to Australia). They also don't always award caps (France in 89), but there was a news clip showing caps awarded last week.OH I didn't know that. Cheers
Finn Russell will come off the bench in the tests. There's no way he's starting in place of Biggar. Gatland knows he can rely on Biggar to execute his game plan.Tbh Farrell hasn't really shone for me playing for England for some time now.
Gatland has a solid system of possession that Wales stuck to rigidly and how that fits with Russell will be fascinating to see. He often gives away possession but of course is equally capable of games changing genius.
What a day Saturday!
The Japanese got awarded caps but it looks like the Lions haven't decided yet!I don't think the Japan game was designated as an official test match.
Uses the bench well. Could almost pick two equally good teams. How on earth does Gatland pick a team out of this? So much talent.
It will a great contest. England put on 40 points with Georgia last November without reply so SA are at a good level despite lack of international games.South Africa were mightly impressive against Georgia without getting out of second gear. The Lions are really up against it in this series.
