2016 Iceland. Very Embarrassing.

I'd be careful what you wish for. We were **** for years before Southgate.

Must admit, whilst watching tonight's game, it went through my mind that it was very reminiscent of MacLarens England.
That does not bode well.
 
Its why wilder came to us , he knows we’re the breeding ground for England managers and coach’s . He just needs to get us up and and back into Europe etc 🫣
 
It’s too late so close to the World Cup but an alternative to this 5-4-1 Southgate often revers too has been needed. Teams have worked out how to play against it and it just doesn’t work.

No. This is nothing like that. Southgate is a terrible charlatan of a manager who ****ed up at Boro, then England U21, and then somehow ended up in charge of the national team. We should be the best team in the world, but we aren't, because of that F***ing idiot. Needs to go.
 
Hard one isn’t it.

Eddie Howe and Potter both the right guys but at maybe the wrong time. Potter ain’t leaving Chelsea after just a few months and Eddie Howe hasn’t really got started at Newcastle yet. That’s got to be an attractive project with the size of that chequebook and, despite all my predictions, he’s doing a really solid job there.

I’d be surprised if he leaves the Toon before they can really start flexing those finances.
 
Apart from Graham Potter who wont be available none of the above suggestions remotely fills me with any confidence.

I have no idea who would be a good replacement.
 
As I've already said, for me Eddie Howe would be a good choice. However, if somebody like Mourinho, Tuchel, Conte, Guardiola could be tempted - I would go for one of those (as a non English alternative)
 
Pochettino... & do it now... Southgate has shown his limitations as a manager - makes a good councilor though, always ready to provide a shoulder & a media friendly excuse - never though he should be the manager & still don't, has his good points though just not up to it.

Completely avoiding the fact he has been a massive success as England manager for 5 years.
How entitled is this view "we should be the best team in the world "? We have won one tournament, about 60 years ago. Ever.
How utterly irrelevant is it now to how he did for us 15 years ago?
England were utter dogs hit for years and years before Southgate.
But we lost a couple of games in a meaningless cup.🙄

McLaren's England-despite having probably the strongest ever squad of England players ever didn't even qualify for the major tournament he was manager for. Finished behind Russia!
Southgate Semi Final and Final. That's the fourth best team in the world, and the second best team in Europe, at those tournaments.
How the **** can you compare the two.

Yea England were doing so well before Southgate was appointed.
