"There are many fans who were indifferent to Newcastle"

Same here I'm indifferent to them( NUFC)), the only beef I have over them is the constant use of the P word when Boro is mentioned.

not really, I quite like Hartlepool but would go off them if the saudi royals bought into them, I'm indifferent to rugby, but if they bought Harlequins I would hate that club. There are many fans who were indifferent to Newcastle who are angry about this, even fans of lower league clubs so wouldn't be at risk by it
You mean to say Palace dont have a long running rivalry, bordering on hatred with Newcastle?

surely they must otherwise why the banner? Only reason anyone can be against it apparently.

Yes but Saudi money is involved in so much in this country, and the people complaining about the newcastle takeover have likely never even thought about the other things they’re involved in

So there is the issue, the high profile nature of this ownership is promoting the saudi royal family, this is exactly why people have an issue with it, it's not in the background. Although if I had the information about what other businesses they have bought into, then I'd probably hate them too

It’s hard to be ethical everyday without being ethical in everything we do . We can’t be selective and think about one thing
evryyhing is linked and there is more than just the Saudis to think about

Oh yes they have. The problem is that the MMS ignore it because of the vast sums to be made from arms sales.
I agree, but the majority in this country won’t even know that happens, or won’t even care

There is indeed, but that is not what this thread is about.
It’s a valid point though, most from this area would likely be against the takeover at least based on what I’ve read anyway, yet our area has just received huge financial backing from the same country which has saved many jobs, where is the outcry against that money? I think the whole thing is wrong personally, but you can’t be against one thing and not the other in my view

We can make choices to our own personal moral compass....most people think the saudi royals are a-holes, and most geordies would have a year ago

surely that goes against the very ethos of HMRC? Offshore tax haven FFS
It's a government body, and look at the government, how many of them don't use offshore tax havens?

There's a lot of unhappiness obviously about the Saudi takeover, but would you want them to remove themselves from our area?

the article isn't clear on what site this is. They've had a major presence at Longbenton for sometime. The HR strategy 2 1/2 years ago was to reduce a number of expensive locations and create offices in certain university towns/cities to attract talent. Newcastle was being reduced but not removed, London offices barring 100 Parliament St office were being virtually eradicated. This HR strategy was to attract grads, straight out of Uni, and Newcastle was already part of that long term strategy. The Longbenton site was drastically under used at that time.

So this government comes in, and it seems that the avoidance of working with tax avoiders is out of the window?! Strange because 2 1/2 years ago they were avoiding investing in AWS technologies because of their tax avoidance, now they are throwing money at tax avoiders.
