New plans for Captain Cook Square.

Amazing just how many of these "new" plans from major housing developments in west Middlesbrough to leisure hub in the vicinity of the bus station were first planned and announced by the previous labour regime.
If this breathes new life into the centre with tv, film, music facilities close to the new art college (presently under construction) then that has to be good.
Also pleased that the plan includes looking after and repurposing some of the more historic buildings too.

So Preston, like Houtchen, is been given millions of tax-payers' money to build stuff and 'create jobs'? And this is Tory in what way? Surely he and Houtchen could easily persuade all their private sector chums to invest in these fantastic get rich schemes rather than suck on the tax-payers' teat?
He and Houtchen are corporate socialists and hypocrites of the highest order.

It would be a good location for a few modern bars and a live venue. Something like Concert square in Liverpool with a bandstand would be perfect. Anything that would divert people away from the awful bars on Albert road is a good thing.

I was looking forward to seeing this vision become a reality.
We never did get to see what the hell the kerplunk hotel Was did we.

Remember this artists impression The Western Gateway Middlesbrough it's laughable hahaha that's me walking the dog !

Initial proposals envisaged the scheme’s first phase including a supermarket at the eastern end of Cannon Park and retail warehouses at the western end.

The central area of more retail warehouses and leisure uses, was expected to follow in between five and 10 years.

This is Will Alsop credited with being a world renowned architect who came up with the whacky plan of Middlehaven . He looks like a boozer who just stepped outside The Pig Iron for a fag .31B7B230-B357-42DE-BF03-98F46C32CF00.jpeg

The only thing built round here is more an more housing on greenfield sites that isn't required. ....
Yes they build out and out and the town centres get more emptier and decayed.

He is talking about leisure facilities so assume he means pubs and restaurants, or is ski slope being moved. There is already two albeit crap pubs metres from the Square. There in no parking around there on an evening. Not sure when Cleveland Centre parking closes.

Where is the new Art College Rob. Is it near Sainburys

I've always thought that CC Square is an ideal place for a few more bars/restaurants/pubs etc. The space is great, open area in the centre for outdoor eating/drinking etc, similar to Concert Square in Liverpool.

Right next to the bus station as well , but aren’t they moving the bus station to out where the Shipmate was ?

What would you do here or spend the money on
Yeah I'd spend the money and I'd FOLLOW THROUGH WITH IT. That's the difference, sick of seeing laughable artists impressions like the ones above where nothing ever happens...like l say the only things that get pushed through the planning stages are more houses, have you been up to the Poole roundabout developments for example it's all on greenfield sites. There will be nothing left of the green spaces in this town Grrrr

Building a new Art College in the town centre so as to knock down a perfectly usable existing College and build new houses in an already overcrowded residential area is seen as some kind of an achievement and progress to some.

If it happens the new development will be full of low quality temporary leases that will be gone within 12 months.

consultants and graphic artists must be raking in the ca$$$$h coming up with these hair brained schemes that stand next to no chance of coming to fruition.
