New Music

Damn but the new Bright Eyes album ‘Down in the Weeds, Where the World Once Was’ is definitely feeding my music addiction just now. Lyrically awesome, whilst blending their well defined sound with added bass signatures by Flea, we have an exceptionally captivating texture.

My go to ATM

New album by The Front Bottoms now available (apologies if mentioned further up the thread). Very good indeed (but still maybe not quite as excellent as 2017's "Going Grey")

Jerry Joseph - Dead Confederate

A very powerful song which will divide listeners no doubt. It was written 4 years ago but remains prevalent now. This is the write up from Paste magazine.

Jerry Joseph’s powerful new album, The Beautiful Madness, is full of troubling songs, and perhaps the most troubling of all is “Dead Confederate.” For this track, Joseph assumes the persona of a toppled Confederate statue. He may be made of granite, but he’s not apologizing for any of the things he’s done: “selling the bodies of black boys and girls,” burning crosses on lawns and hanging men from trees. Maybe you pulled him down in 2020, but he swears, “I will rise again out on Highway 29.”
It’s a song guaranteed to offend a lot of folks. Right-wingers who argue that the old Confederacy and the New South have nothing to do with slavery and racism will be outraged by how firmly Joseph ties them all together. And left-wingers who insist that white supremacy should not be described in any terms but unambiguous condemnation will be outraged that Joseph has let this Civil War sculpture speak for itself.

The Lottery Winners have an LP out called Sounds Of Isolation. Title says it all really its a covers LP recorded during lockdown. A vary varied selection in choice and quality but I like this band. I quite like this cover of The Smiths.

We start this weeks new releases with a song from 2002. Recorded and then discarded it has now resurfaced on Boots No. 23 Vol 1 the first 16 of 48 tracks coming imminently.

It does not get any better than this so head over to Bandcanp and check out the album https://gillianwelch.bandcamp.com/album/boots-no-2-the-lost-songs-vol-1. This is the best thing you will hear today.

Gillian Welch - Valley Of Tears

That last one was so good decide we need another by her. This is an album of covers released last month. This is a truly fabulous version of a John Prine song which itself is fabulous. The album is called
All The Good Times Are Past And Gone and is also available on Bandcamp https://gillianwelch.bandcamp.com/album/all-the-good-times.

Maybe I should stop posting today as nothing is going to top these two songs.

Gillian Welch - Hello In There.................................Ps REM do a great version of this songs that's worth checking out.

Will Butler - Close My Eyes..............................this is ok but nothing more. Which is what I think about most of Arcade Fires output after their debut album.

This is one of those songs that wouldn't change your life if you never heard it ever again.
