Naming of the stands

Next season in League One, we can have the open stand, the away stand and the closed stands….only joking or am I?😉

The Tees is already referenced indirectly in the name of the stadium. How about the Doggy Market stand? I like the idea of landmark, though.

The problem with naming stands after players is that people immediately look to periods where we have no little to know living memory of having seen these people play for us, with the exception of Maddren and Hickton, etc. People probably think of Hardwick, Mannion, Clough, etc. I imagine there'd be clamour for a Juninho stand, but what about Tony Mowbray (Sunderland manager and people were negative about his period in charge as manager), Southgate (won our only major trophy as Captain, but relegated with us and people were divided on his signings for us), Bryan Robson (the fans booed him on the pitch in his final appearance but he oversaw one of the most exciting periods in our history), Slaven (he was banned from the Riverside for a while, I think). People will come up for a reason why a certain person shouldn't be in the mix for every reason that they should. Even Captain Cook is a reminder of the colonial past. And all of the aforementioned players (amd those who already have some sort of dedication to them at the Riverside) are white when we've had so many important players in our history who are black, like Lindy Delapenha. The 'Three Degrees' statue at West Bromwich is a very signiicant new landmark for their part of the West Midlands, for example.
Alan Peacock stand anybody? Local lad from Doggy

What about extending it to other parts of the stadium too, the toilets for example?
The Garry Monk pi$s trough would serve the Boro faithful far better than he ever could and I'd be only too happy to take the most cheery dump upon The Gordon Strachan Pot.

Long time ago but camsell deserves a mention. Top player and worked for the club for years after his career too.
As a fellow durham lad .made up he got his statue outside the ground .
As others have said lots of candidates .but when Gibson eventually relinquishes control for whatever reason that will need recognising
Surely a steve Gibson stand is nailed on

Clubs typically recognise great managers from their past by renaming a stand in their honor... The Steve McClaren stand anyone? 😅
Why on earth would we name a stand after a manager that managed us to our cup success, our highest PL finish (I know other top flight divisions are available) and took us to our only European Cup Final. I’m sure we’d much rather recognise managers that are building projects and where supporters need to look at the bigger picture. So with this in mind my suggestion would be

The project Emnes stand
The tables lying stand
The have faith stand
The bedwetters not welcome stand

The Hurry Up and Wait Stand
The Nothing to See Here Stand
The Long Weight Stand
The Stand Up Stand

They could rename the South stand the Karanka stand because half the fans kick off and walk out when things aren’t going well.

Themed stands with their own tune 👍
The Don't Stand so Close to Me Stand
The I'm Still Standing Stand
The Stand by Me Stand
The Stand by your Man Stand
