My take on today

Reminding me of Southgates arsenal lite experiment of aliadiare and Justin hoyte. Lightweight, lacking in fight.
This is something I worried about when signing up with Carrick.
(Hear me out....I'm not slagging him off the new gaffer just yet :))
But it seems to me we have illusions of grandeur rather than being realistic.
Carlos Corberan is an ugly little man that speaks little English.......but he got Huddersfield 3rd on a shoestring.
He was available.

We bring in the ex-Man Utd player with a 3 game management career.

I hope and pray it works

Just for your info, mentality weak players don't turn up in the championship. They are professional footballers who have HAD to be mentality thought their whole life to get to the point of playing championship football.

Cheers.

Surrounding your rookie manager with duck eggs like Woodgate is hardly a recipe for greatness is it - Gibson is a football dunce. He’s throwing Carrick not so much under a bus, it’s more like a F***ing steam roller 😵‍💫 it’s like buying an Armani suit for a wedding then turning up in it with a mucky pair of wellies on 😳

Now I’ve had time to calm down there were positives today, the shape we set up with made us much better in midfield, but exposed our makeshift full backs. Akpom was excellent, but should have come off before the end as he had gone.

However, my negatives come back to the players we have signed and let go out on loan, particularly on what planet do Forss and Muniz offer the club more than Josh Coburn.

Went today and I thought overall it was a typical performance for us this season.

I could see what he was trying to do with the team he picked, the solidity of Smith behind Jones and McGree playing narrow to allow Giles to push info the space.

It worked to some degree but I thought McGree looked lost at times - I'd push Giles forward and play Bola instead.

But our defending at set pieces is still a problem, the first goal especially was a car crash.

We were talking to some Preston fans in the pub after the match, knew their stuff, they’re trying to do 100 straight games, been to every pne game since the start of last season, briefly this was there summary of Boro:
Weak defensively, particularly both full backs, couldn’t believe how easy it was to get in behind them.
Our defenders aren’t good enough to play out from the back, particularly the big lump (Fry)
Akpom is a handful, they thought Mcgree was our best attacking player, they couldn’t believe it when we took him off, said we immediately dropped 20 yards deeper.
Probably the most damming - 2nd worst team they’ve seen this season behind Huddersfield, one of them did say Cardiff ran us close

Always good to see it from another perspective I guess

I thought I could see what Carrick was trying to do. At time in midfield we had them all over the place. But the players couldn't finish moves off.

Giles was terrible. Afraid to run forward when playing full back it seems.

Akpom was outstanding.

Hackney was excellent 2nd half.

We need Dijksteel at right back for defending set pieces.

McGree seems 70% of the way to being a good player. Him and Hackney could be good in years to come.

Muniz needs dropping.

Neither Fry or Lenihan can pass but both ok at running out of defence. So tweaks needed.

Jones needs taking out of the team. This may be where another youngster comes in I guess.

We need Coburn back from loan as soon as is possible I think.

Would love to see if Payero can be brought back too.
Don’t play him at full back then
Play Bola at FB and Giles further forward

We are very weak and we also seem reluctant to grasp the fact that we play the game at a pace that makes the game too easy for the opposition.
When we had our best spell under Wilder we were up and at 'em and playing at a pace that created space to exploit. Those little triangles between Crooks and Jones were all based on moving the ball quickly and not letting the opponent settle.
Unless the players grasp that then we'll look slow and ponderous and easy to play against. Add in that we get out fought at set pieces then we'll always be vulnerable.
We need to cotton on and start to impose ourselves on games physically.
What’s strange for me is that they would consistently train possession games in training. No goals. Just two touch and move. Find space. Keep the ball moving quickly. I’ve seen them doing it effectively in the training video so why can’t they keep that mentality when on the pitch? They just seem to go pedestrian and lack any understanding of where players will be. Movement off the ball is minimal.

I would imagine that confidence plays a big part though. Maybe the players are scared to move into space because if it doesn’t come off they’ll find themselves having to make up ground to get back into position. But we won’t improve until we start to show for the pass and start to nip the ball around quicker and sharper.

They aren’t mentally strong enough to impose themselves on games physically.
And a novice manager to boot
Gibson truly lost the plot this time

Yet again they let someone run behind to chip the ball onto a strikers head. When will they ever learn are they thick. Don't let your man get away for gods sake.
