Music you discovered later in life

I too discovered Porcupine Tree and Steven Wilson only a few years ago, and had the pleasure of seeing him live on his last tour. I have also got into country music such as Luke Combs, Eric Church, Brandy Clark and Ashley McBryde. My lad, who lives in Canada, has also got me into bands such as Blue Rodeo, Tragically Hip and The Guess Who, all great Canadian bands.

I think as you mature, your appreciation of different types of music evolves.
When you are younger, there is a compulsion to label people and their music to provide an "identity".
As you get older, it becomes less and less important what others think, and what you may have thought was "cack" in your 20s becomes a marker for memories in the future.
Some of that disco stuff I used to despise, but hearing it now - some of it wasnt that bad.(y)

Folk music for me too. I've been in a fair few bands over the years and when younger, folk music was a joke to me. Indeed I remember going to Guisborough Folk Club 25 years ago with the other members of my band and we all left halfway through, laughing like naughty children. Fast forward to now and I love loads of it, in fact I quite often perform on the folk circuit myself. Time's a funny old thing!

I used to go to the Sun at Stockton on a Monday night for the Folk night many years ago when Ron Angel was there.

They scared me off by asking me to sing!!🐈

The Pot n Glass in my home village Egglescliffe has a cracking folk night once a month ( think it’s third Wednesday ) . Been going on years
Yes they're a lovely bunch, I did a few songs there about a year ago. Was quite funny, they were quite serious at the start of the night and said to me, "We might not be strictly purist folk, but we do prefer proper folk songs if you don't mind." A few pints in, when it came time for the open floor spot, they were doing The Beatles, Hi-Ho Silver Lining and all sorts!

Steven Wilson at the Sage on his last tour was excellent. That's the only time I've seen him. I've got tickets for his next tour, later this year, but I'm assuming it's not happening :cautious:

Put the drink down.

Disco was and always will be poop. ☺️

Some thought provoking stuff on here- touched a nerve or two this end. Elton John was fantastic during the Bernie Taupin era, Blue Moves is a brilliant album, largely ignored. Agree that Carly Simon has a fantastic voice.

Electronic- I was listening to an album of theirs last week. New Order meets the Smiths meets the Pet Shop boys...
