Muniz, Hoppe, Forss, Watmore

I hope they all have a good season, and that there's at least 1 gem in there. But is anyone else a bit underwhelmed by that strikeforce?

We really needed Armstrong in my opinion.

Watmore - proved to be a great signing overall but needs to be used mainly as an impact player
Forss - looks ok but i can't see him getting many goals
Muniz - i won't lie, i've never watched him play, maybe just unlucky that he was behind mitrovic
Hoppe - untested, hasn't played a great deal before coming here and questionable goal record to say the least

Hate to sound negative but i know i do - i think I was just expecting some higher profile players to come in up top. Really hope Muniz proves to be the business but he's only 21.

Just have to trust the process as its the model of approach we are taking now.

The likes of Pukki, Toney, Gyokeres etc who have done so well in recent years didn't have brilliant records before they were bought.

There’ll be another striker to add to that list - you also forgot Coburn, although he may end up on loan, depending on his injury

Watmore - Not good enough
Akpom - Doing ok, but see if he keeps it up. Jury is out
Forss - Farely underwhelming start
Muniz - Not seen him and nobody was shifting Mitrovic last year, all hopes on this lad
Hoppe - Crap record, bad temper and spoilt the momentum a couple times at Reading, think he'll play a lot of reserve football this year
Coburn - Jury is out, could be next Curtis Main or could flourish, probably go somewhere on loan

We need another.

The sales of Spence and Tav should have allowed Mr Gibson an opportunity for improving the squad. Some good frees and loans have been achieved via recruitment, but the sheer size of the rebuild needed was immense.

Sadly the forward line has not been sorted yet for me although Muniz I do believe will prove a 15 goal a season striker. However, we need a proven striker alongside him to do the same and so far we are lacking, but there is still time. Forss is a gamble that may or may not pay off, he certainly needs a target man alongside to find out. Hoppe I think will prove a complete waste of money, I doubt Wilder was as keen as mustard on him, but we live in hope that there is a player to be found in there rather than just a spin of the dice from Scott, Gibson or a backroom recruitment statistician.

Giles’s quality will help provide alongside Jones, but the LCB is as urgent as the striker in order to cover for Giles lack of defensive quality. A CM is also needed, someone to cover or improve on Howson, someone who ideally can play a Souness type box to box player, destroyer and goalscorer in one would be nice. This recruitment game is easy on paper, less so on delivery sadly 🤞

Was Armstrong ever an option?
Find it hard to believe. Their website says they only have 4 forwards, and they've been linked with selling/loaning out both Armstrong and Adams, leaving them with Elyounoussi and Mara? Even if they bring 1 or 2 in, it's strange for Adams/Armstrong to be so heavily involved in their start to the season to then totally revamp their striking options - plus, it tells me if Armstrong was to leave he'd fancy himself at another prem club before dropping down?

I reckon muniz will come good and be supported by forss and akpom. If watmore stays he will remain that sharp last minute option and hoppe will cover for any injuries or fatigue or as a plan b

Yeah none of these are nailed on goal scorers but I think realistically as long as they all chip in, we'll get the goals we need.

I don't think we'll get auto this year but if we can build pace we can have one of the slots for playoffs easily.

We have to take these chances imo rather then buying £15m players and having them flop

You're a glass half empty lets just pour it all out kinda guy aren't you?

It's 5 games into the season, and you've only seen Hoppe play 21 minutes of football...

He has a crap goalscoring record
Been let go after a year at Schalke and Mallorca, so that tells me he's not lived up to previous expectations
He has a bad temper and there's a couple of videos showing it online - which can be good at times, dark arts can be useful at the right time i admit.
He was petulant twice at Reading in dying minutes when we needed cool heads costing us momentum.
Wilder has said he's for the future and when Muniz and another sign - Who does he get minutes for us ahead of, thus he will play in the reserves.

Anything incorrect?

He was the only shining light in that Schalke team that got relegated. Granted the Mallorca move didn't work out, but I mean he's a 21 year old odd kid who doesn't speak Spanish.

Let's be real. Proven goalscorers don't work at the Boro. It's not long before we drag em down to our level 🤣

You're making out like he failed at both clubs. Only signed his first pro contract 2 seasons ago

On November 28, 2020, he made his professional debut for Schalke against Borussia Mönchengladbach in the Bundesliga.[8] On January 9, 2021, he scored a hat-trick, and his first senior goals for Schalke, in a league match against Hoffenheim.[9] Hoppe became the first American to score a hat-trick in the Bundesliga and the 4–0 result also meant that the club ended their 30 game winless streak in the league.[10][11]

Hoppe signed his first professional deal at Schalke on February 1, 2021, keeping him at the club until 2023.[12]

Mallorca

Hoppe moved to La Liga club Mallorca on August 31, 2021, the last day of the 2021 summer transfer window. The transfer fee paid to Schalke 04 was reported as €3.5 million plus possible bonuses.[13] Hoppe made only seven appearances for the club across all competitions in a debut season that was beset with injuries and a bout of COVID-19.[14]

All hopes are on Muniz. If he has a poor season we are goosed if we have to rely on the others.

Thats the real problem, we are a graveyard. We need a proper striker coach, someone who has done it - preferably here - i'd love it if Leo was a ex-striker i'd feel like the new strikers were in good hands, but strikers just seem to come here to die :ROFLMAO:

He spent a year in Schalke first team, they pied him off to Mallorca who pied him off a year later. If he had potential i find it strange two clubs have got shot after a year of having him around, they could both be wrong and he could fire us up but i just don't see it.

What were peoples thoughts on Hoppe when he came on against reading?

Apart from those 2 infuriating fouls he gave away - i thought he looked pretty bright/sharp, and got in some good positions for a chance or 2.

Yes a lot of that is incorrect.

His goalscoring record at Schalke wasn't crap. He scored 6 goals in 1300 minutes, which is 1 goal every 218 minutes (1 in 3 striker - better than any Boro striker last season).

People get caught up on how many games a player has played without scoring, but they don't take into account the minutes played, how they're utilised, or who they're playing against...

His record for Mallorca looks pretty bad, but the only game he played longer than 30 minutes in, he was a lone striker in a 6-1 defeat to Real Madrid (and he got the assist).

I wasn't impressed with him at Reading, but he only played 20 mins for a team who were already playing pretty bad overall.
