Muniz, Hoppe, Forss, Watmore

He spent a year in Schalke first team, they pied him off to Mallorca who pied him off a year later. If he had potential i find it strange two clubs have got shot after a year of having him around, they could both be wrong and he could fire us up but i just don't see it.

Schalke were relegated to Bundesliga 2, their finances were in dire straits and they had to sell most of their squad to avoid a points deduction, he was then signed by a La Liga team.

Similar to what happens to many players from relegated teams, they move to a team in a higher division.

We sold De Roon when we got relegated, it didn't mean we'd pied him off.

There's no way of spinning his time at Mallorca as a success, but I don't think you can use Schalke selling him upon relegation as an example of him failing.

Especially at his age and stage of career. Will have been a language barrier too I presume

The Mallorca coach has admitted that a big part of the reason Hoppe wasn't playing was because of language issues preventing him fully integrating in training.

I imagine it was slightly less of an issue in Germany because there tends to be a better grasp of English there.

Sorry but im not impressed by them. Need to do it on the pitch to convince me....none of them will reach 10or 15 goals at least. Be more confident if we got a emil riis, gyokeres, semenyo or weinman along side them

As are we!
Last proper 'success', Bamford on loan maybe?

I'd say Watmore for what he's given us was a successful striker signing. He'll never score 15+ but every team needs a Watmore in my opinion.

Negrado in 16/17 was our last "proper success". Stuani in 15/16 too maybe?

Bamford was definitely successful in his first spell in 14/15, but was he as good when we resigned him in 16/17?

There's a few others I'd put on the borderline... but we're going back YEARS now, Kike(?), Nugent(?), Emnes(?), McDonald(?).

Britt without the price tag was semi-successful in terms of goal scoring record too, but the £15-20m we lost overshadows that.

Failures however.... Balogun, Connolly, Sporar, Ikpeazu, Bolasie, Akpom, Nmecha, Hugill, Braithwaite, Fletcher, G Miller, Gestede, Rhodes, Kike Sola, Vossen, Kamara, Main, Jutkiewicz, I Miller, Nimely, Ogbeche, Boyd, L Miller, Bent, Kitson, Lita, Killen, Mido, Alves, Aliadiere, the list goes on and on.

Muniz got 5 playing a bit part, I reckon he will get 10 easy

Hoppe and Forss we have been told are developmental so not expecting too much. Watmore is keen and runs around a lot. Misses more than he scores but I like him as a super sub. Muniz probably has more ability than the rest but still a bit of a gamble. Would like another physical sort and would not be averse to an older player if it gives us that option if the likes of Larsen is a no no. Akpom has done well up to now. Definitely a confidence player so think Wilder will know how to get a song from him.

Yeah, I think Stuani was a success, but he didn't play as a central striker very often, although he definitely could have.

It is mad to think for all the money spent, must £50-£60 million by now, and the various options and players we've been through, that we could have had a front three of Bamford, Stuani and Traore in this league. Nice mixture of attributes there that we could have added a few rotation options to.

That Monk summer of madness has pretty much ruined us and set us back ten years.

Hindsight is always 20-20 though, but I can't recall many thinking spending £16 million on Braithwaite and Fletcher was good value and what we needed.

Hoppe playing for the U21s tonight.
I don't know why, (and it's not like me) but I have a feeling in my water Hoppe will do alright for us and become a bit of a cult hero.

I have it in my head sort of like Charlie Sheen in Major League, the South Stand singing 'Wild Thing' when he's subbed on and him going mental with the crowd when he nods one in at the back post.

My first analysis would be are the forwards worse, better or the same as last year.

Out

Sporar
Connolly
Balogun
Ikpeazu (half season)

In

Muniz
Forss
Hoppe
Akpom (as never played for us last season)

Its very early days, but the new lot collectively look a bit better than the top lot but not dramatically so.
If Coburn plays for us this season I think he will be better than last season with another year under his belt.

Thre is the money for another forward to be brought in yet.

As posters have said Armstrong was never available.

What does stand out is that its a young collection of forwards .

If we want to get promoted that forward line is not good enough, if anyone thinks any different they are kidding themselves.

We had the money in from an unexpected windfall in Djed and we havent spent it on someone that propells us up the league.

I think Wilder said that he wanted 40 goals from the group of strikers, we aren't that far off that at the moment, think they've scored 4 in 5 games. I guess 5 in 5 if you give the 2nd at Stoke to Watmore.
