So you've used the term re-offending, which implies guilt rather than presumption of innocence.
Ok I should have said risk of offending. Not really sure where you're going with this flip side but the law of the land is clear. In serious cases where an individual has been charged with murder, attempted murder, manslaughter, rape or attempted rape there is no presumption in favour of bail and the individual will automatically be remanded into custody. This MP has not been named yet because he hasn't been charged and is therefore a free man currently. If he's done nothing wrong he's got nothing to worry about. Take it up with your MP if you feel so strongly about it.

Wasn’t this already in the press a week ago, and someone named ? Or is this a different, but similar story.
That was former Conservative MP Charlie Elphicke who was convicted of sexually assaulting two women nearly a decade apart. One of his victims had reported his actions to senior party figures nearly a year before police were called.

That's exactly my point!
There is NO presumption of innocence.
I think you are agreeing with me without realising.

Soon as this thread appeared I knew someone would be along attempting to link it being a Tory MP accused of rape with the actual party. Someone accused of rape is no more or less likely to be affiliated to any political party. Attempting to do so is pretty shameless

I agree wholehartedly with you on this.

There is another part to this story though - why did a year pass from the chief whip being informed of this alleged offence before anything was done?

If there is an innocent explanation of this, then the party machine needs to move very quickly to explain it, otherwise it will look like they were trying to cover it up.

I would imagine that aides/political party staffers are 'encouraged' to seek grievance remedies internally before reporting alleged offences to the police. Here's two cases in quick succession where the Conservative Party has known about serious alleged offences for some time and effectively sat on them. Regardless of your political persuasion that's not right.

I never said it was. My point being just because someone is a Tory MP, Labour, Lib Dem or whatever else doesn’t make them any more or less likely to be accused of rape. I knew some posters would link the accused being a Tory MP to the actual party (you aren’t more likely to be an accused rapist because your a Tory)

Tory MPs have got form for this kind of thing, though.

I'm criticising the machinery of political parties. All of them. If this was your wife or daughter you wouldn't stand by while they went through what is effectively a grievance process. You'd encourage them to report it to the police and let the law take the complaint through due process. I'm saying in two recent cases the Conservative Party has sat on serious allegations when their duty of care to the individual should have prompted an immediate referral to the police.
