Mowbray - You're a WEASEL

He is always going to defend his player and team, he has a job to do which he is already under pressure with. The majority in his position would do the same I fully expect. Will throwing his own player under the bus do anything to help his side?

Its happened and we cant do anything to change it, just need to move on

Here's how a decent human and manager who has deep connections to the club and area would have handled it:-

'Yes I saw that incident and I'll be honest it's a penalty and sending off. I know Branthwaite and he definitely didn't mean to hurt Dael he's a good kid. This is actually more my fault, I spoke to the lads in the dressing room and said you have to fight for every ball because Middlesbrough are a very good team who will be up for the challenge. I hope Dael is well, I will be reaching out to him and Neil.'

So its fine to raise your foot that high?
yes, when your not in danger of smashing someone's face in. brit's foot is not close to the keepers head there, the photo is just showing the keeper being stood closer o the camera than britt. is that what you think constitutes a red card?

There you go, easy as that 21 hours after the incident.

And you don't speak for everyone either 👍🏻
Actually, his words speak well for me on this occasion Uwe. I genuinely find any defence of both Mowbray and his poorly chosen words and response on camera to be distasteful and disrespectful to Fry, our team and suspect they are far from the feeling of the majority of fair minded Boro fans. Boromart has eloquently explained several times on this thread how Mowbray could and should have dealt with it in a professional manner instead of the way he chose. He, in my personal view, lied to the camera and the millions watching.

There is no way he or his backroom team will not have seen that back. If it was the other way round I am sure he would have seen it. Managers always claim they never see these incidents when it is their player that caused the issue, yet they always see it when their player is the victim. There is a reason for that as you well know.

As for Mowbray, he has lost a lot of the respect I held him in both as an ex-player, ex-manager and as a fellow human being. Legendary status is not a right, it has not just to be earned, it has to be maintained too.

Yesterday, a lot of the gloss has been lost by his mealy-mouthed words in that interview. I hope he hears himself back, speaks to his player so he never does that again, I hope his parent club do too. I also hope Mowbray comes out and apologises personally to Fry and Gibson. He wont to Warnock, although he should, as he was incredibly disrespectful in that interview, but it sounded to me like there is possibly bad blood between them anyway.

Most of us said exactly the same straight after the game yesterday.

You seem to be extremely worked up about this though. I do think we all agree that it was a bad challenge that should have been punished by a red card and a penalty. It wasn't, and that is down to the referee who will hopefully have to explain that to the powers that be - not that I think it will make any diference to anything.

It is impossible to see how close Assombolonga is to a player with his boot.
That said, I think like another poster said, re Warnock allegedly defending foul play, two wrongs don't make a right.

My point is a still frame doesn't give you a great perspective.

You realise the boot is up there because he's being pulled to the ground by a Blackburn player right? 😂

Same answer.

The Fry incident looks awful on a still frame. Fair enough, penalty and red card card. But its just a silly, reckless attempt to clear a ball. Watch the replay in real time. Theres no malice at all.

Don't hold your breath Coluka. The Liverpool Echo are running a story where Mowbray has done another interview and is still spouting the same nonsense.

Not remotely worked up! I suggest you read back the comments in the thread again.

I don't know where you get that idea from.

Not defending Mowbrays comments but lots of managers dont see things. Some when it suits them others when they genuinely miss things. We will never know the answer to this one(or all of them TBH) but what I will say Mowbray is an honest guy and in the heat of the moment its probably easy give a one sided point of view in a 1 minute interview.

Whether there is malice or not is completely irrelevant. It doesn't need to have malice or intent to be dangerous and reckless. Is it really that hard to understand?

It looks awful in real time too.

Malice is absolutely irrelevant.
Some of the worst injuries in football have been completely accidental, they're still horror challenges that need punishing and calling out.

He's still spouting the same in this interview. You would assume he has had chance to watch it back, but because Branthwaite is a skinny beanpole of a kid, from Carlisle or Cockermouth, its absolutely fine.

The still frame shows him being pulled back as did the incident in real time.

Fine 👍🏻 but none of us on this thread speak for our whole fanbase either. As much as we always think we are always right.

I think some people are annoyed because Mowbray wasn't as angry as they were yesterday. His perspective of the situation is always going to be completely different to our fans sat at home.

He is a big Boro fan but I imagine he takes his job at Blackburn pretty seriously as well. For those 90 minutes his love for the club will go completely out of the window which i understand.

Nobody, well that I have read, has said it was done with malice. Your own words admit it was reckless. Reckless means irresponsible, there is no place for it in the game whicjh is why it is named as a red card offence. The lad is 18, learning the game and Mowbray thought him ready to play in a “mans game” If he ever does that again he will have learned nothing. His actions were dangerous, intent is not relevant. If I were Branthwaite I would regret my smirking and be on the phone to apologise to Fry personally. Mowbray should make him do. The lad needs to reflect, if he continues and plays the game that way, he may find a wily old fox teaches him a lesson one day that he regrets.

Like I keep saying it was a reaction to put his foot up, not a considered decision. If he makes too many of those mistakes and starts giving away penalties then his career will be pretty short lived anyway.

I didnt know he was smirking after what happened, if that's true and its not done out of embarrassment then he deserves criticism.
