Mowbray close to tears

Even in the Rioch days, 'fun' was never a word I associated with Mowbray. Even back then, when giving post match interviews as a 23 yr old player, he was like a battle hardened miserable old manager.
It was more to do with the fun following the team, and to me him and Bruce Rioch were carved out of the same piece of granite.

There’s difference between tribalism and being patriotic(can’t think of another word hah) about your team

It’s a fine line
I think football crowd behaviour before, during and after matches is very clearly tribal.
If I'm at home watching the match or getting updates at work, that is different. Maybe it is then 'patriotic' support or passion. Being in a crowd is a very different thing. Even more so if the opposition brings a large and loud tribe.

Love Mowbray the player but sick of hearing about the Mowbray love in as mackem manager on here i hope luton beat them 10 nil on aggregate
Wishful thinking because I think Sunderland will bury Luton over two games because Luton really are not all that IMHO.

If we have to play them in Play off final at Wembley I feel for him . I've known Mogga and his family for years . He's Boro thru and thru . He will deffo (regardless of being their manager ) hoping we do it . As will all his family haha
Even if they beat us it will feckin hurt him . Yep he's got job to do . I don't envy being in his position In a potential match like us vs them . I mean he's as big boro fan as all of us. How would we feel . Feel sick thinking of being in that position 😕

It's a tough one isn't it.

I literally read Col's post and feel the same, like eff Mowbray. He's supposed to be Mr. Middlesbrough, as mentioned the board and fanzine is named in reference to him. To go and manage them? Does he love Boro, or even us as the fans, as much as we love him? It's that feeling that maybe he doesn't, that we aren't as important to him as he is to us. That slight sense of betrayal despite understanding the logical reasons behind his appointment there. Would Chris Wilder ever manage Sheffield Wednesday? No chance.

But then you look at it and say well, Mowbray has more integrity in a hair on his big toe than in every fibre of Wilder's being. Can we begrudge him after Barnsley and the lack of funds we gave him if he has lost some feeling of obligation to us?

Then I think about Grant Leadbitter and his dad's ashes, captain of Sunderland. As mackem as they come, Sunderland are enormous to him. Did he sing his heart out about the mighty boro when we went up? Did he pick himself up, dust himself down and drag us through after our Wembley heartbreak? Yes. Is he back with us now? Yes. Where does that leave him with Sunderland?

Funny old game isn't it. So much emotion.

Anyway, hope Luton d!ck em'.

I find it difficult to understand. I'm a diehard Boro fan and just feel that if I was a professional football manager I could never manage Sunderland.

I get that people will say it's a job at the end of the day but you ultimately have to want the football club to do well whilst you're the appointed manager of that football club. You have to become emotionally invested in that football club.

To think he may soon be tasked with masterminding a result which will keep us in the Championship and promote Sunderland to the Premier League.

I will congratulate Mogga on a job well done.
With the (lack of) resources and the (lack of) talent available to him, he’s done an amazing job.
I don’t think they will beat Luton, but if they do, I will congratulate Mogga on making the final easier for us.
Always a Boro Legend, always my Boro hero.

I think it’s easy to say as fans that we wouldn’t do that and we wouldn’t do this

It doesn’t work like that unfortunately and there and countless things of people playing or managing rival clubs

If you kid only got offered a chance at Sunderland would you knock it back. No you wouldn’t.

If he got a place in their starting line up would you refuse to the stadium. Highly unlikely

Now that you’re in the stadium, would you want Sunderland and your kids to lose. Probably not (unless playing boro)

I am going to say something which some might find controversial, but I don't have the same loyalty to Mowbray that a majority of the fans on here do! I like him as a fella when I have watched interviews with him and I like seeing people from Boro doing well in general. But I can't remember him as a Boro player, my earliest memory of Boro is 1988(I was 3 year old) and me moaning to my dad that I was bored when we where winning 6-1 or something although I can't remember the football, the score or the players involved I do occasionally get reminded about the match by my Dad(I'm not sure he has forgiven me for spoiling that match for him yet 😂). I didn't actually start understanding and following football until around 1993 when I was about 9. So I don't have the same memories and loyalty to Mowbray that a majority of the fans on here do, who witnessed him play and drag the team back from the abyss.
I suppose it's the same for the younger fans who can't remember Juninho, the cup finals, the highs and lows of the superstar players and 3 point deduction. They will of heard of them and probably seen videos but don't have the same feelings and memories that fans who where there to witness it.

Agree with a lot of what you say but let’s wait and see how good a job he does of sabotaging their play-off campaign before we judge him too much.

Imagine we beat Sunderland at Wembley with a 98th minute own goal winner? It would be up there with his Villa moment.

All fair points, though I suspect Mowbray would replace your last three words with "especially when playing Boro".

I feel that's different, as I'd have no other
choice but to be happy for my kid, despite deep down wishing that they played for another club.
