Morrisons will bar customers who refuse to wear face coverings

It’s all about minimising the risk and putting less people at risk, when you think about it wearing a mask is a no brainier and the less people in the shop the better, remember food shopping is essential, not a social trip out.
Some people, old folk for example, cannot shop on their own.

that’s me done on here for tonight. Too many ppl making me angry

I really do hope you don’t mean that

if your scared because two people go shopping together I feel desperately sorry for you. Some people aren’t able to shop on their own.
That’s the minority I would have thought. Most people can but for some reason choose to endanger people’s lives by going as a group. It’s really unnecessary.

From Monday, shoppers who refuse to wear face masks offered by staff will not be allowed inside, unless they are medically exempt.

But it said: "From today we are further strengthening our policy on masks."

Security guards at the UK's fourth-biggest supermarket chain will be enforcing the new rules.

Morrisons' chief executive, David Potts, said: "Those who are offered a face covering and decline to wear one won't be allowed to shop at Morrisons unless they are medically exempt.
I know a few Covid deniers who have exempt cards, probably printed off the internet............ wan kers!

I assume it will be a decent amount of pressure and chew for some minimum wage lad arguing with some knuckle dragging meat head.

Hopefully everyone will be respectful and responsible*.

* I don't know what I'm basing this hope on.
Then stores need to hire suitably capable security staff to enforce it.

Mrs. Foggy and I bumped into the daughter of a friend of ours in Tesco, this was before the new lockdown and limitation on numbers to one came in but when customers were required to wear masks. The daughter, who has been an attention-seeking drama queen who thinks that the entire universe revolves around her for pretty much all her life, had no mask on but was wearing an exempt lanyard and badge. Seeing us looking surprised she explained she was exempt “because of my Irritable Bowel Syndrome”

Another "mardy arz"!

I'll tell you why Morrisons on Teesside Park stopped the queue for the tills, because so many people couldn't wait to be directed to the next available one and were whining at the staff. I know this because I witnessed at least 3 people do it in front of me. In fact, the woman in the queue ahead of me not only did that, but she also abandoned her trolley and went off down another aisle and held everyone up waiting for her to come back. I didn't recognise her from a coin or bank note so I assume she was no more important than anyone else in the queue.
That's why I do the weekly shop on my way home from work on a morning, there's more staff doing the home deliveries than there are shoppers.

it's too bad that we have to force people into this...although you have to admit that some people who enter stores [pre pandemic] should have a health warning on their head. Some people just feel incredibly violated when they have to wash their hands-- it's the hardest thing to get humans to do-- for whatever reason.

I Haven't read through the thread fully so apologies if this has already been said but it's far too easy to just claim medical exemption.

There is no way of proving (or not) whether someone has a genuine reason for not being able to wear a mask so they will let in anyone who claims an exemption.

Will they also enforce that people wear them correctly so that people don't walk around wearing a mask covering their mouth whilst they breath in and out through the nose?

Maybe I live in a godforsaken fenland town in the middle of nowhere and I haven’t been out much since March but since it was made mandatory I’ve never not once seen one person NOT wearing a mask in a supermarket.

So I’m sorry but I’ve literally no idea what you lot are moaning on about.
I've seen a few. I have also seen the security guard at my local sainsbury getting abuse by an anti masker.

Worse thing for me is people wearing them and not covering their noses. The amount of people who do this is crazy.

I can't say I've noticed many people without masks in supermarkets; maybe 2 or 3 during the whole pandemic.

That said, I think Morrisons are entirely right to do this. At the end of the day, they are not obliged to serve anyone.
I suppose shoppers can make their own minds up too; if, when all this is over, they decide to take their custom elsewhere, that is their right.

I am not sure I am comfortable with supermarket security guards ( have you seen the clip of some of them??) getting in peoples business demanding to know what their disability is. It just feels wrong for the genuine people who have none visible disabilities.

On the other hand I have no issue whatsoever with making life more difficult for the plethora of 20 something botox injected lasses who cant/wont wear a mask, or the 20/30 something lads in their skinny joggers and hand tattoos.

Maybe the supermarkets should have a designated hour for non mask wearers , a 7-8pm happy hour where all these fuckwits can come and infect each other and no one else.

Good, the medical part exemption though, I really find it hard to imagine what medical situation would stop you wearing a piece of cloth on your face.
There aren't many genuine reasons, and I'd imagine that anyone with a condition that is exasperated by wearing a mask should be shielding at home not wandering around the shops looking for broccoli.

really? You'd need to bleach the shop down and remove all the fresh produce which has been breathed on

The level of fear some people have built up on this board astounds me.
They'll be telling people off for looking out of the window for too long next.

Supermarkets have been proven to be hotbeds of infection. You have people on here whinging all the time about lockdown and wanting to be back to normal etc yet they are not prepared to do the things that will get us in to that situation. You can a ) follow the rules and have lockdown over sooner or b)continue to break them and be locked down for longer - it’s that simple. Sadly by default the common sense or lack thereof of your average person is giving us option b by default.
