Morgan Rogers

Good on him. It will be slightly annoying that Villa will get the credit for developing him and forget that really he made his name here. Much like adama traore at wolves, Spence at Forest etc…

Quality player, but he is suffering from the same thing at boro, being ruthless

For all the praise he is getting he’s just not getting the assists and goals his performances deserve

Watkins was absolutely fuming with him against Everton when he didn’t pick him out

Was that the open goal when the pass was slightly too far ahead of Watkins?

Looked to me like Watkins tripped himself up slightly and was trying to shift the blame.

England cap and big money move back to City would be nice 💰💰💰 .Well providing we've cap add on and sell on percentage.

That said City definitely missed a trick. Madness to think they city sold him to us for around 1mil. Surprised Pep didn't see anything in him.

To be honest I didn't rate him until December and I don't think the people at MFC rated him enough to start him until December. Once LL signed Rogers didn't play much and was behind Coburn in the pecking order.
You weren't the only one and clearly Man City were of that view.

He did have a really good Christmas period and was clearly developing but no way did I see this sort of rise. I was maybe expecting him to be part of Villa's squad as they were in Europe etc but didn't expect him to be their main playmaker so quickly.

There is no way any sane person in January would have been saying that he would be valued at £80 million only eight months later!

He was head and shoulders our beat player at the time, however the blokes behind us thought he was gash 🔔🔚s
Let not re-write history. He’d only become a regular member of the first team around two months before he left. He’d had some real stand out games during that period but he also had some games to forget. He was finding his feet in the men’s game but I don’t know how you define best player.

There’s a little bit of confirmation bias by those that picked out his talent. A little bit of ‘I told you so’ but in answer to the original post he is absolutely a different player now to the one we had. The transfer was good for all parties. Happy days.

I don't even think it was two months. We had a home midweek game in the first or second week of December. He played well and was a starter thereafter. He wasn't a regular starter before that point.

I couldn't recall exactly and i didn't have time to check so i gave myself a little bit of wiggle room ;)

Rogers and Lath generally played together.
They were taken out the team and came back into the team at the same time.

Rogers was sloppy in his first few league games for Boro. He showed that he had talent in glimpses and his athleticism was obvious but his decision making at times was poor. Loads of potential that he wasnt fully realising. He got firing in the League Cup run and then looked a much better player when he came back into the side around November.

Villa have done a great job with him polishing off his rough edges.

But there’s also a lot of rewriting to talk down his creativity and the fact he was really played out of position as a lone cf for us.

People that looked deeper could see he was an excellent player, but still learning

Those with x-ray eyes. 👀. 🤣🤣🤣

I’m not having that.

I agree Morgan was still learning his trade and showed glimpses of his talent but as said above, his decision making was what was letting him down. No one would have predicted his rise.

Emery is a top manager.
Most players at Villa have improved under Unai Emery and his backroom staff, so it's no surprise Rogers has also improved as a player.
