Middlesbrough recruit Head of Scouting from Crystal Palace.

Seems a bit of a journeyman, but it's obviously not that easy to find information on what he's achieved at each club.
 
Almost like we are a work in progress and there is still lots going on behind the scenes, to build. Maybe Gibson does have a plan and is letting it get implemented afterall eh? Maybe his plan is medium to long term and maybe he won’t be wetting his panties 10 games into a new season.

As an aside. In every job I’ve done I’ve disagreed with various people, in roles above, equal to, and below mine in the hierarchy. We’ve still been able to work productively and effectively and maintain good professional relationships. I’m sure the same can be said for football club hierarchies.
I don’t actually think it’s such a big deal for people to disagree about some stuff, so long as they are on the same page broadly/ bigger picture wise. I’d expect it, even.

Q1 - whoever spent half his budget on a couple of strikers he doesn’t want, presumably!
 
Good to know we are still making adjustments to that department. Maybe Palace weren’t willing to allow him to leave until after the window shut, wasn’t that similar to how Scott joined us last year from Norwich?

Given we bid 5 million for Greaves and 7 million + for Larsen, on top of the money spent for Hoppe and Forss, I don’t think it was half his budget. I also don’t think it’s completely unreasonable for the club to be buying potential while still trying to buy the strikers Wilder wanted. (Muniz, Larsen, Riis).
Unfortunately those deals didn’t come off, but it’s no secret that we did put money on the table for them, and we did have money in the bank. I very much doubt it was ever a case of Larsen/Riis OR two development strikers. We know we were in for three + Muniz. What’s the club supposed to do? What’s wilder supposed to do? ‘Hi Chris, we are going to get Muniz + one other big money striker out of this list here….. We can also buy these two who we believe have big potential for the near future. Is that ok?’
‘No. I don’t want them. If you buy them I’ll not play them. Get me the main striker and ditch the other 2.’
Or
‘Fine, but I really want this guy if we can make it happen. The other 2 will be a bit down the pecking order at the start of the season but will be good to have them options as they develop through the season’

Is that really such a stretch? That wilder was happy to have them both as 3rd,4th, even 5th choice? But the club let him down not getting the other striker in. Doesn’t mean he didn’t have some say in Hoppe and Forss and wasn’t happy to have them.
Of course if they were bought in and Wilder said he didn’t want them, then that’s bad from the club, but just because one isn’t featuring in the squad frequently YET doesn’t mean that’s the case. We always jump to the most negative, critical position to attack the club. Sometimes they can’t win.

I’m guessing scouting people don’t often move during transfer windows, when the fruition of all their work comes to a peak. Was probably only ever going to be able to come once the window was shut?
