Middlesbrough Council Bankrupt...

The new administration give over a million to JOMAST to start developing a building bought by JOMAST is not helping.

Why are we giving private landlords money to develop their own buildings that they bought at reduced cost?
Like the high streets getting done up from public money despite being owned by greedy lazy wealthy landlords.

Oh, I'm not suggesting that we wouldn't have agreed it, Church house is an eyesore and something needed doing.

Something needed doing… but it is not the council’s responsibility. It is privately owned by a company that bought it for a knock down price to turn into flats to make a huge profit.

At the same time the council is cutting essential services

Disgraceful for any council to support this

The issue here is that the Government through its ideological "austerity" has turned councils into financial brokers for Central Government Cuts.
By doing so, it has reduced local democracy, by attacking councils autonomy to make informed decisions of those who know the demographics of their own areas, and the needs and priorities of their people. We have an ideological battle, not an economic "necessity", to transfer power to the rich elite and make the poorest pay. Its a deliberate policy by Central Government.

Accept what you're saying mate, the council doesn't use general funds to support capital projects, indeed it would be illegal to do so, when councils invest in projects like this it's never to the cost of essential services. Governments sometimes hands out funds for this kind of work and this is indeed where the cash came from to help improve this eyesore building.

I think what we are seeing is the total collapse of the idea that "small government" can work or is indeed favorable to anyone but the smallest minority.

You've had 3 months versus you've had 13 years.

Monies spent come from a variety of places and do not effect other "essential services"
Another numpty.

It’s public money regardless of the pot it comes out of…. People in need and services cut could benefit from it if redistributed.

Do you think it’s acceptable to give money to wealthy private landlords to do up their properties so they can sell on for more profit?

I couldn’t care less who is in power…. It’s wrong

You sound like a closet Tory shill

Your guessing is shyte. Have a look through all of my previous posts. I'm not going to justify myself to you 👍🏻

The notion that Andy Preston was some sort of financial and investment whizz kid was blown apart during his tenure. But he actually didn't need to be any of that, it's not what being an elected mayor is about. The problem was he didn't even have even the basic skills to allow the council to function properly. He didn't allow to.

Middlesbrough Council and the town itself is in much worse shape than when he took over.

With regards to the council going bankrupt, surely their needs to an investigation into their development company. It seems like Preston started to interfere with it shortly after becoming mayor and had control without transparency.

We have had nearly 14 years of Tory cuts which have been bigger than most can imagine.

Andy Preston then came in with, quite frankly, crazy ideas and a complete lack of experience or understanding of public service.

He took the reserves from between £15m and £18m down to sub £3m.

Lots of his madness is still locked in and needs to be paid for. Spending tax payer money on buildings with no survey in place, wasting huge sums on planning fanciful buildings(some even with dual helipads), attempting to reinvent some departments and services leaving the council less efficient than ever…

We’re now in a dangerously vulnerable position.

Who you vote for really matters.
