McNair - Right Back

I'd rather have an U21 play there for a few games than have McNair anywhere near the team. Too many mistakes in him and he was awful at RB. I guess we won't sell him to Luton now that Giles has gone there.

He's a rubbish right back. Playing international football there is irrelevant. He plays for Northern Ireland and they are league 2 standard.

He’s definitely a last resort until we find a someone who wants to play there. Must be some free agents who fit the bill?

We need a short term fix, and he will plug a hole. Solid enough player, who at least has experience of the league. One of the younger lads might struggle.

As MC hinted, it will hopefully only be for a few weeks - 4-6 games maybe? And whos to say they dont blood in one of the younger lads in between during that time.

Just give it 4-6 games and you’ll all be waxing lyrical about McNair at right back, I don’t think he’s the long term option but he will impress you because he’s so versatile and professional

I'm onboard with McNair as the short term fix (y) (my post may have been confusing).

A situation like this needs a steady experienced head to take over, and not a panic buy that uses up part of the budget, unbalances the squad and leaves us with more decisions to make later in the season.

Issue with Paddy is that I don’t think he truly knows what his best position is. As a short term option he’s okay at right back but it certainly doesn’t solve that issue and leaves him at a bit of a crossroads once injured players return.
I think that is the beauty of being classed as a utility player. He can play in a host of positions without it being a permanent place in the team.

We'll have to make do with it.

It doesn't sound like we'll be signing a replacement unless Smith's injury is really long term.

He's found out every time against pacey players and then fouls if they get past...he's a liability at RB. Jones should start there and play in a role like Giles did on the left. Even if only for the first 5-6 games. Forss will take the RW role so Jones will be benched again otherwise. I'm sure he'd rather play.

do we all have to have positive views of all players, at all times? We're fans, we have opinions, that's just life. As long as there's a balance of positive and negative it's all good.
Yeah but some of the posts here are silly. He was fine last night and I'm sure he can do a job there. Agree with Carrick that it is pointless signing someone just for a few weeks when we can cover it.

McNair gets a lot of stick on here but he happily plays wherever he is asked without any fuss, probably to the detriment of his own career.

we conceded 3 goals against bradford. If we have ambitions of going up fine wont cut it.

I don't see the problem with fans highlighting why he shouldn't be played in an unnatural position for us, he has hardly ever played there since he has been here and there is a reason for that.

We cant use northern ireland as a yard stick they are awful, recently beaten by finland and kazakhstan
