Matthew Hoppe loaned out to San Jose

They only work 9 to 5. :) I can't see this being any indication of a forward signing unfortunately as Hoppe was clearly not in their plans. EDIT Perhaps raises the chances of Josh staying?

I'd be amazed if it was 3m without contingencies for appearances, promotion etc. Which we are nowhere near activating.
Id be shocked if it was in excess of £1m and didn't Wilder laugh at the suggested £2-3m transfer fee?

Overall I dont think this will have cost anywhere near as much as some people think, especially when you factor a modest salary and loan fees.

SJ — Probably the worst team in the MLS, so he’ll probably do ok. I can’t think of anything positive to say about him only from the moment he signed for us I thought we had been duped.

He was always likely to go to the MLS. He should have gone last Xmas instead of Hibs. Clearly can’t hack it in English football, maybe even European football. However young enough to give it another shot if he does well in the MLS. Not sure what the recruitment team saw in him, but it must have been something. A strange signing when we already had Coburn.

Unfortunately he’s just nowhere near the standard required, I’d be very surprised if we see him play a meaningful first team game for us again.

He seems to have been bought on t(e basis he scored a hat trick in the Bundesliga when he was 19 therefore must be talented.
Some players are incredibly lucky that they have a great first game, or few games to their career, that gets stuck in people's head and convinces clubs that they can rediscover that something special but it was never there in the first place. See A Connolly and Federico Macheda for other examples.

The fee reported was in Euros and I seemed to remember it was around 2.5m.

12 months ago fans on here were saying we had wasted £2.75m on Akpom.

I am not saying Hoppe is as good as Akpom, but he has room to improve and is still only 22.
Yeah he does, but we won’t see him in a Boro shirt again.
