Matt Crooks.

I think I’ve been guilty of underating Matt Crooks. Seven goals and Six assists last season, couple of assists and Goals already this season. Yeah sometimes looks a bit clumsy but he does a bloody good job for us. Officially my second favourite tree.
I’ll hold my hands up as well but it’s just his lack of pace that is never going to change but you can’t deny his energy and his heart.

He has those attributes, yes, but he's miles better than people give him credit for. His goal against Bolton was excellent. Doesn't matter who the opposition was - it was an excellent finish, and two assists today. Plenty of clubs would want him.

He's a Championship professional with loads of goal involvements. A great player to have in the squad. He's limited in some ways but you know you are going to get 100% every week. He gets in the box. He's a handful for defenders.

I was surprised he signed a new contract mainly because I thought he would move to a bottom half Champ club where he was a first team regular. It turns he's managed to get himself a regular spot at the Boro after being more of an impact player last season. He seems the type of pro who would want to be starting and not happy sat on the bench

"But Crooksy-Wooksy. Precocious talent, isn't he? Mmm? Ooh, got it all, you know? Speed, acceleration, sweet left foot, all the tricks - the dummy, the drop of the shoulder, the shimmy, nutmeg, jiggery-pokery, hocus pocus, abracadabra, I wanna reach out and grab ya. Steve Miller Band? Spin Doctors? Ooh, very similar."

I well reckon that the fact he just looks naturally permanently f*cked and knackered works against him, cause it makes him just look like some gangly, immobile clogger 😅

I do like him though, aside from the fact he just seems like a good bloke, and stuff like that interview when he signed a new contract is a surefire way to get me specifically to love a player. But I think he's been really good for us, doesn't always get it right, like when he was through today, but he also does get it right a lot, the ball today for Coburn, the numerous important goals he's got for us, stuff like that ball over the top for Archer against Luton last season. Think he's got more ability and technique than it looks like he should have.

Plus he always just looks like he works so hard for the team every time he plays, puts a proper shift in. A top professional as well, never causes a fuss or creates a drama when he has a run out of the team like he was for a while last year. One of those that looks like he's great to have around the club as well, feels like he's been here longer than he has, seems mad it's only his third season with us.

Yeah i agree, he sometimes looks like he's running in quicksand, and at times can be frustrating, but his effort and commitment is first class.
He played well today.

looks like he's finally worked himself into a bit of form
him+Coburn are huge and look a real handful
also he's key on defensive corners

Crooks is an easy target as he can look clumsy but he is crucial for Boro. Great attitude, clearly enjoys being here, scores goals and makes assists. He’s also a physical presence which is needed.
