Matt Clarke back in training

Funny things happen in football, he might just be a real positive. He certainly had a good reputtation prior to arriving. He didn't look the type of player to be playing it out from the back, but we'll see. I ssuspect he's a while away yet though.
Hang on......I thought he was the overlapping CB, the final piece in Wilders tactical jigsaw.....the left footed CB...... the.......🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️

May well be the reason we didn't look at CB cover, the medical team were confident he would be back early in the season 🤷🏻‍♂️

Anyhow, fingers crossed there are no further problems and he makes a 100% recovery. And then makes his football comeback 🤞🤞🤞

He won't be troubling the first team for a good while yet, .....why not?

Is it because of all the clean sheets the team have been having? the solid understanding the back 4 have?
Ohhh hang on, we haven't had any clean sheets yet.... 11 goals in 5 games, we are coceding over 2 goals per game in the league, that needs to change ASAP.
er, there are the small matters of fitness and march sharpness.
the last thing we need now is an unfit CB without a game in a year being thrown in through panic.

You mean the same as an unfit midfielder thrown in? Howson clearly wasn't fully fit, yet was given the task of one the most important positions on the pitch.
If Clarke is training for the next 2 weeks, then he will gain fitness, and gain sharpness with game time, lets be honest he couldn't do much worse.

Howson had been out for a few weeks, completely different, I don't know why you'd even think to make the comparison.

Let’s be honest here; his physical well-being long term is all that matters. IF he is able to get fully fit and playing, well, that is a bonus really. Must have been a nightmare for him this last year, backs are a bgger!

If we can get Clarke back to 100% he’ll be the best CB we have at the club in my opinion. Us signing him was bizarre the way the then coach wanted him to play. If he’s playing in a back 4, which he will under Carrick, then he will shine. Really hoping we can get him back to full fitness.

Lenihan and Clarke.. oh yeaaahhhh

Maddo has been harping on about us needing to bring in an experienced centre back.. maybe he has the inside scoop?

Firstly - pleased for the guy.

I think we can allow him a minimum of 4 weeks to get anywhere near normal.

True, but hadn't played a minute of football. Clarke will have still been working on his fitness.
True, but has Matt Clarke even done any running before this week? I have no idea. The fact is Jonny Howson played all last season barring a couple of games and was at the pre season training camp. Matt Clarke hasn't done anything since October last season. So it was a totally unreasonable comparison.

he played on the left of a 3 for WBA though didn't he?

If you believe the rumours Clarke was okay running, just moving on from that changes in movement and his back was flaring up again.

Can see him being "fit" - as in not a big lardy bloater, basic cardio fit - but long way from match fitness.
