Malcolm Christie

It's 30 medals for the league cup these days. I wonder if there are any plans to retrospectively hand any out like they did with the world cup and premier league when their criteria changed.

Pretty poor not getting an invite originally, but it sounds like it has been rectified now - Malcolm choosing not to attend. I'm more disappointed that 20 years on from breaking that hoodoo we are in much worse shape as a club.

It was such a shame, he looked like he was going to kick on and be a really good PL striker after we signed him only for injuries to ruin his career. I haven't heard the full story and need to listen to it, but it's very sad that it sounds like his injuries were mismanaged and ultimately ended his career.
Treat him like a test dummy and ended his career. Andrew Davies did the exact same thing 3 months after and they treat it properly and he went on to have a very good career.

Odd , the biggest event in our history and we can’t be arsed to invite the key people that were a part if it .
They must all be getting Paid to attend and we can’t afford everyone 🤷‍♂️

I've put this in the '20th Anniversary' thread, but thought it deserved its own thread owing to how disappointing it is.

He deserves better than that.

Genuinely shameful. Club hasn't learned its lesson from ending his career 20 years ago, and likely only sent an invite in when he admitted the impact of not being able to play in the final so publicly.

Loved Christie as a player and without injury he could've been a Boro great. The club seems to be hitting all the wrong notes in terms of communication lately.

Pains me to say it, but the club's approach to the 20th anniversary seems to be all wrong. That BBC Tees have prepared the most apt tribute (and a stellar one at that) speaks volumes to me.

Are you thinking of Riggott scoring twice? Christie got one.

Wasn't long after they'd both signed from derby, just unusual that it was the defender who got the brace!

Christie would've been a very good player for us if not the injuries.
I believe you are correct festa5. Thanks.

He's on the academy staff, so he cant have fallen out with them that much.

happy to take the coin !! - despite his 'not sitting well' comments and the pomegranate lob of not receiving a cup winners medal, even though he was out injured (mental/physical) and not in the squad - as i say, i liked him playing for Boro - but footballers through the ages have missed out on medals when not selected or not making the final cut squad.

Jimmy Greaves for England in 1966 for example.

It took an appallingly long time to right that wrong with Jimmy Greaves.

It's always been wrong.

I cannot get my head around this! The story is bad enough in itself, but when you factor in he’s on the frigging staff, I mean Jesus wept!
What did they do? Give it to the work experience kid to organise?
Pisss poor Boro! Pisss poor!
I never knew he was on the staff

No wonder he was so peeved esp seeing all the build up

That is shocking.

I might be a bit naive here but surely everybody attending will have needed paying? I’m not sure it’s as simple as just inviting the full lot.

Doing it on a Thursday in the middle of the season is kind of dictated to by the date as well. It would be a bit mental to celebrate an anniversary 4 months later.

As ever, it’ll be interesting to hear from both sides. It wouldn’t surprise me if it nothing sinister or deliberate. Do people think those working at MFC are not just like the rest of us? It’s not some evil empire.

Find it poor from Malcolm. This night is for the fans not necessarily the club. It was those in attendance that lost out. Same goes for all of the players who may not have went due to grievances.
