Mad Nad’s seat up for grabs

The Tories are so FUBARed that they'll just cling on knowing that they will be out of power for at least two terms. This is their final moment to raid the coffers and benefit themselves. Probably 75% of the Tory MPs that lose their seat will never sit in parliament again
We can but dream..

Another who's fallen for that nonsense.

It's clearly not nonsense that it impacted the vote.

It's a fact.

I didn't say that it's a bad policy, it's just demonstrably true that plenty of people voted for the Tory candidate because he was against it, not because of national policies.
Labour admitted as much, the Conservatives admitted as much, neutral commentators admitted as much.
Even he admitted as much in his victory speech.

They still only just hung on to the seat.

“ As things could not look worse for the Conservatives, time to let the women come in to clear up.
Rishi Sunak and Jeremy Hunt to go immediately. @KemiBadenoch @SuellaBraverman to assemble a small top team to focus exclusively on the priorities of the Tory base and convince them it’s worth voting.
Thus minimise election defeat in October 2024.
It’s the only strategy”

Tories on Twitter in total meltdown. Wonderful sight.

Kemi Badenoch and Suella Braverman?

That is a seriously terrifying proposition.
And I truly mean, terrifying.

It’s very..the morning after the night before for the apparatchiks and client journalists.
They expected to lose at least one of the seats, but not by a 20%+ swing. But both. That somewhat nullifies the stay at home excuse, which is been constantly paraded today.
That’s now happened in three of the last few by-elections.
The double B option smacks of the desperation and worry that they’re feeling today.

They've spent the last 13 years focussing 'on the priorities of the Tory base' that's what has got them, and unfortunately the rest of us, in this mess in the first place. And as for Tory women coming in 'to clear up', some people must have exceedingly short memories.

This is the problem I have with it. Labour didn't admit it, they blamed it. They had the wrong candidate who was imposed from above, and who was weak on the ULEZ policy, and this was exploited by the Tory who was a well-known local candidate. And blaming ULEZ has made it into a much bigger issue in London (where I live) than it ever would have been. It was bad politics.

This is the Tory’s problem. They can’t own up and accept their failings over the last 13 years which is the real reason people aren’t voting for them. Instead they just think they can ignore that and double down on more of the same rubbish that got them here in the first place.

Banging on about small boats, even when presented by a woman from an immigrant background, is still whipping up hate and division. The public appear to be sick of it. Labour are presenting a more positive message.

The Tories just need to stop lying. If they could, then own up to their mistakes and present a genuine plan on how to improve things they might have had a chance. All this would have had to be under a leader with barely any connection to Johnson. Truss & Sunak were just continuations of the Johnson shambles.

They are finished. If I was a Tory I’d be wanting a GE now, get it out of the way and start to rebuild. Things are in the clarts currently and aren’t going to get better anytime soon. Let Labour get dragged down with that job and try and come back afresh in 5 years time. That is their only hope.

The longer this Government carry on the better for Labour. Sunak‘s approval ratings will drop as he tries to deal with the conflict in the Middle East. I don’t think Sunak’s ego could cope with giving up the rains though when he has a year to go.

Amusingly those two would be even less popular with "Tory Grassroots" (the suburban racists and xenophobes in the leafy shires) than our current Prize Miniature. I can think of nothing funnier (in a cringefest way) than those two trying to appeal to that demographic.
There's a war about to erupt in Toryville.

There are MPs that know they are facing the boot, in provincial red-wall towns and they will want to double down on hate, division, racism, boatpeople talk and culture war. Some will want Johnson back, some will want to get behind Bravermans hate.

Then you have the Tufton St maniacs who are happy to hang their hat on Bravermans rhetoric, but maybe have a misalignment with Braverman economically and would rather have Truss back.

Then you get the one nationers, that want Penny Mordaunt or someone similar in power.

The right have been emboldened so much in that party, that the gap between tehm and the relatively sane tories is so large, that it's impossible to get them all to work together. The true one nationers that have held their tongue must be getting awfully tired of the rhetoric, the odd one puts their head above the parapet then usually leaves.

They were largely united behind Cameron, they started to fall apart with brexit, they snapped when the last intake of MPs, the ex-KIPpers got in, then 30p Lee got his senior Tory role, and it's now an embarrassment, a circus of a party. I've always disliked their politics, but the rhetoric, abuse of power and lies are a whole other level now, it's gonna collapse.

Tories are gonna Tory. Wonder if he even has that long. What they have always been good at is throwing their leaders overboard. It could get very chaotic
3 parties in one struggling for control. Also their private polling could be even more interesting.
After all the party membership put Truss in. Some are online today demanding proper Conservative leadership and policy. They think Sunak belongs in the Green Party

( just read Mart above. Totally agree)
