M + S in the Boro shutting

Because it's easy to get to (by car), free parking, and a better range of shops than the town centre.
I thought we were supposed to be persuading people to use cars more sparingly.
Parking for M&S in Middlesbrough could not be easier - the car park is probably closer to the A66 than Teesside Park - I think the perception is often different but the car park is within 5 mins from the junction.

It's not good news for the town - however I'm not a fan of M&S and haven't been for several years. Aren't there better alternatives in the town for food or clothing?
It depends on your age. I still buy clothes from M&S.

I'm one bus away from Newcastle, two buses away from Teesside Park. That's how ridiculous the situation is for many now.

I'm not saying it's a good thing, but it's clear why people are frequenting Teesside park rather than the town (that was the question i was responding to).
As for going car free, it would be great, but the bus service and train services in the area are appalling. People won't change behaviours until it's somewhere near as convenient unfortunately.

You can park outside M&S at Teesside park and there's several large quality shops and restaurants right nearby. Walking from M&S to the car park near M&S with several bags of shopping isn't ideal.

The other advantage is it's not in Middlesbrough town centre so is scrote-free

I worked in that M & S for a couple of Christmas’ when I was a student during the Christmas break.
At the time they talked about how it’s the food department in M & S that makes the most money, effectively propping up the rest of the shop in some stores.
I also worked at the Teesside park store and would take huge numbers, way more than the Middlesbrough store.

For the majority of people, a car journey would be necessary to go to the town centre or Teesside Park. Public transport is a nightmare for the majority of us.

Whenever I go to Teesside Park, on an evening, shops, restaurant or cinema it seems like the car drifting championship is taking place with lots of cars souped up and smoking their tyres for some reason. Is this a meeting place for fanatics to show off their cars whilst making the car parks and roads around them unsafe?

No, and you know that but you also know that public transport on Teesside is poor and what I was alluding to.
It's a decent service to what were the main shopping areas through the day, I find, and I use it a lot. Perhaps it's due to where I live.

The problem for me is the lack of services direct to Teesside Park. It's replaced Stockton and Middlesbrough as the shopping centre. Surely there should be a bus station there?

The lack of direct services to James Cook hospital is another problem that should be addressed.

I disagree that Teesside Park has replaced the town centre, people go there for different kind of shops. There is some crossover between the shops but realistically there are plenty of shops in town to not warrant making traffic worse by adding a bus station of all things at Teesside Park. I'd much rather go to Teesside Park than the town centre but lot of people live in the town centre and a lot of people still go there.

Busses most places are terrible. I once got the bus to a boro game from Ingleby and it took an hour to get there and when I got back there was a gap in the services so 2.5 hour wait, so I had to ring my dad to get a lift home.
