M + S in the Boro shutting

Let's be honest, Teesside Park is poor for shopping. It's got an M&S but the majority don't do a weekly shop there. It's just laziness. You can drive and park at Teesside Park and don't have to walk far. And then you can get a McDonald's on the way home to replace those calories you lost walking to your car.

Boro town centre needs a lot of money spending on it. If Andy Preston cared about Middlesbrough the money would be there, but it isn't. He doesn't even live in the area. He lives in a mansion and yet the people of Middlesbrough think he's got their best interests at heart? Jesus. He's a poor man's Rishi Sunak.

It doesn't help that the Tories are killing the north too.

Mrs W liked to do some shopping when I was at the match. She loved Binns/HOF cosmetics and their cafe, also BHS, Debenhams and of course M & S, all very close to each other and no need hardly to step outside, Great choice of clothing to try on and explore. The internet is not the same, you can't try clothes on on online, nor touch them, nor smell fragrances or test out a lipstick or have tea and cake or a pint with friends. Teesside Park is OK, but its a characterless giant trading estate.

Cant think of a town centre within 50 minutes drive that has character. Character isn't something I find shops or town centres have a lot of in general.

I'd much rather shop online that go into shops and have to tell 8 sales assistants that I am just browsing and don't need help, and when I am buying I don't have to assure them 3 times I don't want their extended warranty, and the prices are far better and you can get cashback on orders as well.

8 sales assistants?

You definitely haven't been shopping in M&S for many, many years.

You might get better public transport when enough 'baby boomers' have had their drivers' licence suspended for medical conditions. Trouble is, some of us are passing away, so dwindling influence at elections.

Its the likes of Teesside Park which has squeezed the life out of town centres.
It based on the assumption everyone has access to a tin box.
Anyone tried to use public transport to/from Teesside Park?
Schitty bus shelters - exposed to all the elements.
The trolley parks are better protected from the wind and rain.
One bus - the X12 every hour from Middlesbrough Bus Station

The town centre has been going downhill for years. It's got absolutely nothing to offer now, I'm actually embarrassed whenever I do need to go there. At least Teesside Park has some decent shops & is always improving. Plus, it isn't full of junkies. Primark will be next to close as soon as the Teesside Park one opens. It looks as though it's going to be a fair size too.

There was a smackhead rolling around on the floor outside the entrance to M&S on it's last day. You don't get that experience when you use their website.

Primark the last big store in town. TK Maxx is about to close in Captain Cook Square, with a new store opening at South Bank retail park. The town is dead.

Let's celebrate the fact, why don't we?
Seriously. It isn't something to gloat about - it is pretty devastating for an awful lot of people.

I'm not gloating or celebrating anything! My wife and daughter both work at TK Maxx and have to move stores in May.
