Luton Hoof Ball

I seem to recall in that game when it was 0-0 Beardsley was clean through on goal and the referee brought it back for a free kick to Liverpool.
Vinnie Jones should have been sent off in the first few seconds too. He'd have got a 5 game ban these days.

We had it with Pulis, despite having some good players. It was terrible to watch, absolutely awful.
It's not quite the same as Pulis as I feel like Luton have a lot more attacking intent.

At the end of the day for a club with Lutons budget you have to find another way to play to climb the leagues and that is what they have done.
You can say they are **** and there players can't play football but the way they play it produces goals to win games and that is what football is all about.
I'm sure the Luton fans are having a good time at the moment watching that type of football.

We called something similar "Pullis Ball" and that wasn't much fun to watch. Winning is not everything.

At times watching Luton last night it seemed their players were barely capable of controlling the ball and passing it to another orange shirt, so it was two touches to control and hit it long. Even then they didn't really create anything until the ball was stationary and they could attack it with their height advantage.

Oh they are, scored two and conceded none.

Only remember Wimbledon playing at Wembley once, it worked for them there against the country's best team.

I'd never thought of that till now!😫

I have no problem with how Luton play, with their resources you have to give them huge credit for what they've achieved in the last few years. I do hope we get a strong ref if we do play them at Wembley though as they can cross the line with how physical they are.

They had two strikers, Adebayo (6'4) and Morris (6'2), up against two centre backs... Hume (5'9) and O'Nien (5'9)...

If I was a Luton fan, I'd be pretty disappointed if we didn't at least try some hoof ball.

They don’t play football though…they aren’t interested in playing any football
On the lovely big wembley pitch if we can get through let’s seeeeeeeeee……😃

Of course they do. Long ball is every inch as legitimate a way of playing football as ticky tacky stuff.

Football is a physical, contact sport.

Maybe it's not what you would call football, but then you'd be wrong.

Edwards, like most good managers, has made the most of what he's got. He's only had the jan window to get anyone else in so its probably not the style of football he would like but hes done well with what he has.

You can imagine if we end up playing them, one of the big talking points will be the 'clash of styles'. I'm sure Luton will use this to their advantage (no-one likes us or wants to see us in the prem.). I don't think you can really downplay their achievement. Two years in the play-offs with a tiny budget. If we do get the chance to play them, let's hope they don't go any further than the play-off final!

They have a style that is very effective. A big physical side who defend well as a unit and get the ball forward quickly. Difficult to play against (on any pitch) and certainly no push overs.

Definitely not one for the purists but it's bloody effective. Think they won every second ball last night and looked a yard quicker than Sunderland all over the pitch.

They make the pitch big and either hit the front two with diagonals (it generally sticks) or whip very tricky balls in from out wide.

If we get there, I do think we can be undone (to some extent) by teams who bully us. Think we probably have enough ability to neutralise them tho (see Sheff U away)

Managers always talk about winning the second ball but never the first ball. If I was a manager I'd just tell my players to win the first ball. Winning the second ball is for fanny's who weren't strong enough to win the first ball.
