But if a keeper is making mistakes almost every game the rest of their game doesnt really matter, its not a position you can ever get away with that. I dont really think the rest of his game is anything special anyway, yes he made some decent saves today and against Spurs but they were all saves you would expect him to make, nothing special and certainly not enough to ignore the mistakes in his gameAnd I think that's the point that was being made, he's been judged on the conspicuous mistakes, rather than all of his game, if that's not counter-intuituve.
De Gea went through a period of making a lot of mistakes, but it didn't mean he was a poor keeper, rather he's a world class keeper that has allowed mistakes to regularly creep into his performances.
I'm obviously not saying Lumley is on the same level or anywhere near, just that he had talent, but needs to cut out the majority of the mistakes.
Take those away and he suits our system well.
He doesnt really suit this system either, we need a keeper who is comfortable with the ball, Lumley will never be that and it was noticeable today he is now just getting rid of it every time he is under any pressure, thats not really what we need
