Long Covid -could this be the real legacy of the pandemic

Yeah the ones arguing that we should just be allowed to get one with it fail to consider its wider impact than just the death rate. No knowing how long the impacts could last but you hear some horror stories even from young and healthy people. It’s a virus none of us want to get regardless of our age.

as well as that we need to consider the excess deaths should the NHS become overrun and the impact from operations and treatments being cancelled

This is genuine and has been seeing to be recognised for months. I'm 7 months down the line and my lungs still feel heavy. I'm trying to start doing cardio every other day in the gym to try and get the function back. It's weird how much it leaves you short of breath now, even just climbing stairs.

I used to do 20 miles on an exercise bike in just over an hour comfortably. I'm now building up to do around 10 in 35 mins. It's slow going.

There is a facebook group for long covid and there are a lot of people suffering varying long term effects.

Heard similar from a fair few people, hope you manage to make a full recovery.

Makes the government trying to force heard immunity on us even more dangerous considering how many people it will leave in a similar position.

Im waiting for more studies on the heart muscle fibre damage. It was found in both asymptomatic and symptomatic and could cause major issues down the line.
We’re at a similar place as with Measles, people quote death figures and seem to ignore blindness & deafness caused by it.

Check those comments people don't want this nonsense to carry on. Try to re-evaluate your positions @zorro_mfc my man.
How do you propose we protect the vulnerable if the disease is widespread in the community? How do these people shop, attend medical appointments, have carers, tradespeople etc in their home and not catch it when it’s widespread?

also what about the many people classed as none vulnerable, who have very long term health impacts they have to deal with?

and what happens when cases are so widespread that hospitals are full of Covid patients, and people can’t get routine medical procedures.

Mate none of what you have said is backed by science other than people reporting feeling bad on an app and 'studies' that haven't been peer reviewed and have absolutely miniscule sample sizes, you're suffering pure fear.. read the other side mate try to get some confidence and optimism back in your life.

Yes 40,000 plus people in this country died of fear. I’m still amazed people hold those views.

The threat is real people are die ing and have died.

I have seen first hand what this does to healthy people, and there are plenty out there suffering long term issues. That’s not fear, it’s what’s happening right now

again though most importantly how do we protect the vulnerable if we just allow this to spread through the community. As a society protecting our vulnerable has to be the number one priority, allowing this will lead to thousands of needless deaths.

when we currently don’t know how long immunity lasts, or how close we are to a vaccine, pressing ahead with heard immunity makes zero sense.

Give it a rest mate. People have died, people die, it's a fact of life. The way some go on on here it's you catch covid and die in 2 weeks or live with life limiting symptoms for the rest of your days.

And people wonder why people's mental health is ****ed.

Pubs and restaurants closing across the central belt in Scotland, expect the same in the North East soon, a circuit break maybe but it is very real, politicians wouldn’t take such an economic risk if it wasn’t.

Have a little bit of alternative viewpoint
He’s a professor of medicine at Stanford University leading comment with 6,000 health experts. “This is the biggest public health mistake I have seen in my career".

Please understand your government, in league with the mainstream media, may not have this right, it is hard to comprehend but you have to be critical thinking about this.

Yes because this is exactly WHAT happens to a lot of people who have caught it

It's really not.

It's funny because everyone I know who's had it is absolutely fine now.. see that's what anecdotal evidence is.

You're just selfish because you're an overweight 50-65 year old who's never felt in danger before, meanwhile 7,000 people die of dancer a week and most of those new patients can't get screened or get treatment.

I had it beginning of April and Iam still suffering bad shortness of breath and tiredeness

You're quite correct they may not be right but then again Jay Bhattacharya might not be either. Here's a view of Jay and his chums that is not from either our government or the some journo in the mainstream media

Dr Rupert Beale, an infection biologist at the Francis Crick Institute in London, said: 'This declaration prioritises just one aspect of a sensible strategy – protecting the vulnerable – and suggests we can safely build up "herd immunity" in the rest of the population. This is wishful thinking. It is not possible to fully identify vulnerable individuals, and it is not possible to fully isolate them. Furthermore, we know that immunity to coronaviruses wanes over time, and re-infection is possible – so lasting protection of vulnerable individuals by establishing "herd immunity" is very unlikely to be achieved in the absence of a vaccine.'

Here's my critical thinking. The government have made a decision on the route they were going to follow back in March and whilst their performance has been woeful that's not the fault of the basic plan. They took a cautious approach informed by 'health experts', understandable in the circumstances. You need to understand something, nobody but nobody is enjoying this and everybody wants it over. The best way to do that is to act sensibly, do as asked and follow the plan. Changing horses at this stage would be beyond daft.
