London stations

You're wrong about conditioning, whatever that means. I lived in Stockton for 30 years. On the edge of town so surely I'm "conditioned " to like provincial towns with very close access to the countryside. The fact is I prefer city living. It suits me perfectly. I like living in an apartment I like having so much to see and do on my doorstep. I like having great transport links (though, currently not so much!) . I live the buzz of big cities and get an energy from them, from LA to Hong Kong, whenever I land in a big city I love the drama and excitement.

I personally think you're wrong about Hyde Park given its size but can understand your opinion. There are, however, places like hampstead heath and Richmond Park if we want massively green areas. Hampstead heath especially feels like a country place not a city.
You live wherever you feel happiest, we are all different and don’t take any notice of me trying to wind you up 😉.

I lived in London for a few years when I was younger and thoroughly enjoyed it as well (Hyde Park is the only place I have ever known where you could turn up on a Sunday afternoon and just join in a good game of park football with people of all nationalities) but this virus has made me look a bit differently at the way governments and local authorities have people living.

Hyde Park not a proper green space!! Richmond Park, Kew Gardens, Hampstead Heath, Greenwich Park, Blackheath are all nice places. If you want something greener you are only a drive or train ride away from larger green spaces.
Acknowledged, it’s just there’s nothing like the North York Moors within a good few hours of London.

From where I live in SE London I can get a train for 15 minutes to Coulsdon and then walk from there across the South Downs to Brighton. And I love the NYM. London is one of the world's greenest cities. Compare it with any of its European counterparts and you have to tip your hat slightly.

All he has done is let people in the South leave and impregnate the rest of the Country. He should have closed all transport links shortly before announcing the Tier 4 call. Obviously the Government did not learn from previous lockdowns.
I suppose it was damned if you do and damned if you don’t on this one, if he closed transport before the announcement, there could have been many thousands of day travellers stranded in London, whether that be commuters who work in London or Xmas shoppers.

Interestingly enough my Daughter has been told by her, London, university that despite the governments travel ban, she is allowed to travel home for Christmas and the University will support that decision. The government agreed it and will have to stand by it, is there take on the current travel restrictions.

She can now come home for Christmas and I believe she will be.

On a more general note it is why they couldn't just shut down transport links.

Bushy Parks a nice one. Has hundreds of deer running around in it.

By train the actual North York Moors are within a few hours of London.
I suggest you get on the train and enjoy them 👍.

I‘m reading all these posts defending London and it’s parks but with the best will in the world you are not comparing apples with apples.

Its like saying I haven’t got a car but I’ve got a bike instead, and that’s just as good, honest mister....

Fair enough. You must be right and those of us who live here must be wrong. 🤪

It seems like you just love the North York Moors - and more power to your elbow - but they can be great and so can London.

London can't compete with the NYM for Moors, but - Coronavirus notwithstanding - the NYM doesnt have the cultural life or the nightlife of London.

It would be a boring place if we all likes the same things.

And if everyone hopes sticks to Helmsley it'd be ruined!

At the risk of repeating myself, I am not anti London it’s the way of living I don’t like.

I mean all that ridiculous overcrowding of people onto trains in tunnels deep underground standing nose to nose with a stranger for an hour with stale hot air to breathe - surely we can see something not quite right about that? Like rats down sewers comes to mind.

And small town above likes his apartment living but is 50 - 60 m2 on the fifth floor with safety windows really suitable for people?

If you stop thinking London and think about any mega city then you might understand where I am coming from.

I don’t just like the NYM, I like the Lakes, Scotland, Derbyshire, even parts of the south west are very nice, the south east coastline has its highlights too.

It’s the seventh floor actually.

I just disagree. You don’t have to be offensive and say things are “unnatural “ (I bet you wear clothes, and use a computer). You don’t have to insult people for choosing the vibrancy and excitement of a big city over the countryside. I love the countryside I just wouldn’t live there. Just try conceding that people like different things. For my life right now a big city is absolutely the right place for me

I'm with Marx and Engels on this one!
"The bourgeoisie has subjected the country to the rule of the towns. It has created enormous cities, has greatly increased the urban population as compared with the rural, and has thus rescued a considerable part of the population from the idiocy of rural life." The Communist Manifesto
