Lewis Wing

Has he never been taught to keep the shape of the team? As you can't just run and leave a massive gap for them to pass in to. Which is exactly what he does. Professional footballers should know this.
I guess not being brought through the pro ranks, has impacted this. I think he was with Darlington for a year when he was 13/14, but they were in a mess and I doubt they had much coaching pro support for the U14s. From 12 you start to introduce footballing intelligence and at 14 team formation, and working as units. He effectively missed out on 8 years of proper pro training that others kids get.

Apparently he played well for the 25 mins he was on the pitch last night, a friend of mine is a Rotherham fan and said he looked pretty good.

Warnock was treating him as a 10 which IMO doesn't suit him. He needs space to see the game and for his long range shooting. If you have him too far up the pitch/close to defenders he's too easily stifled.
I think he actually works best as part of a midfield 3, although defensively he's been caught out a few times this season, hence his lack of games.

He's had the look of a player low on confidence and given he knows Warnock doesn't fancy him its a situation I couldn't see changing here anytime soon.

There were times under Woodgate when the attacking play seemed to be built around trying to engineer an opening for Wing to have some space to measure a shot from 25 yards. It reminded me of the England rugby team trying to engineer a space for Wilkinson to kick a drop goal. Wing’s not had that luxury under Warnock who has expected more donkey work scrapping physically for the 50/50s - actions Morsy and Saville are clearly much better at. He’s still a decent player at this level but needs a role and formation that suit him to shine unlike someone like Howson who could adapt his game to fit any manager’s expectation.

When played for us I always thought there were more goals in the game, because his shooting was always threat for us, but the opposition would get more opportunities too. Overall I still think he is a decent championship squad player for us and was a little disappointed he went out on loan.
