Leo Wants to go to a back 4

Listening to his interview, the impression I got was he wanted to play a back four but had been instructed to play with a 5. His comments certainly seemed to be along the lines of "we are much better, and a more attacking force playing 433". In fact that's exactly what he said.
Which makes me wonder who's actually in charge at the moment?

Yeah that is very strange.

Tj
I think we need Warnock back.. not cool, never go back and all that. But until end of the season give it to Warnock and build again in the Summer.
There may very well come a time this season when we need to bring in a Warnock type manager to steady the ship and try to keep us up…..

I thought the whole point in continuity, a forward thinking progressive thread that runs through the whole club (boros wording via gazette) was to keep the same style manager to manager. So why is our caretaker (club mascot) going to change the formation?

Not sure he would come back, he wasn’t impressed with Scott or the nature of his departure from the club.

I think most pros find a back 4 an easier system to play. Everyone's role is much clearer.

Back to basics and we have the players to do it. Probably more so than we do to play wing backs.

After 14 games we shouldn’t be looking for a caretaker until the end of the season. It would also be an acknowledgment that the ‘plan’ of sporting director and whole recruitment ethos was a failure

I can certainly see us needing a caretaker to keep us up as I think he will appoint Leo or Cattermole and it not working but we are 20 games and another failed transfer window away from it yet

I also think he’s wanted Carrick but Carrick wants to bring his own team with him and Gibson wants to keep Leo, Liddell and Cattermole to all stay in post, which I can imagine is a sticking point for any new manager

I think if we play 4 at the back plus 2 wing backs we might keep a clean sheet.

Its nothing to do with formation its application. The goals against Millwall and today were poor marking and not being tight or aggressive enough. Formation has nothing to do with that.

Our mentality has to change nothing else
The first goal, albeit from a corner, followed a spell of play in which they successfully attacked the space behind the wingbacks several times in the space of a couple of minutes, they knew what they were setting their stall out to do to get at this system.

The second goal mind was a ball directly to our centre backs who just let the striker take it down and have all the space in the world to ping a screamer in, that's pure individual incompetence.

Is the team being picked by commitee?

I think our start has been so bad that it is putting off any potential manager. We need automatic promotion form just to make the playoffs so any managers work is going to be massively undermined and be a blot on their CV it will only be an attractive prospect imo if Leo puts enough points on the table before the wells cup break.. and then he makes a case for himself to keep the job further still. Then the other option is when we get further on in the season and it becomes a rescue job. Risky for a new manager, but the promise of a clean slate the following season or even a rebuild in league one becomes more attractive.

I might be wrong, but I think Carrick will be looking for a premier league club or at least a top six championship. Next season would be different starting a fresh. Corberán will be similar I think in terms of Championship expectations.. Rob Edwards perhaps less so.

Leo is the manager for now and it feels if anything he is holding a place for Rob Edwards.. bit of a period of evaluation perhaps?

We are screaming out for an experienced manager, one that can be trusted and steer us out of the relegation zone. Who is THAT going to be? Roy Hodgson? Alan Pardew? Steve Bruce?!?! I can’t see it being any one of them tbh Sean Dyche? going from £12m a year in the prem to £120k in the Championship? Bottom of the table!

Let’s swallow our pride, admit we took a wrong turn and bring Warnock in until the end of the season. Let’s get all our pieces in place and start again with a young coach next season.

I don’t think the hierarchy could face the embarrassment mate. NW would make a song and dance about how he was wronged the first time around, and that’s why it wouldn’t work. Only my opinion.

Relegation would be more embarrassing.
Of course it would, but I would be really surprised if they went to NW with cap in hand. I think Hell would freeze over first. Obviously, I’ll hold my hands up in apology if it happens and stand corrected, but I can’t honestly see it.
