Leicester could do a Burnley

Think theyll finish top 2 without a sweat. I think the lad daka, hes cery pacy, he will do well in the championship.

I'm not clear why a squad that didn't apply itself to stay in the PL, and that will lose quality, will suddenly develop the motivation and application to stroll through a 46 match warzone.
I believe since the play offs started there are only six seasons where as many as two of the relegated sides were promoted back next season.

I agree, however, when the season kicks off, and, perhaps, more importantly when the window shuts, you would expect Leicester to be favouites for autos. I think they will have a favourites chance too. Doesn't mean they will adapt, of course.

I think all 3 relegated teams will be strong this year. In the past we've had yo-yo teams that have failed to strengthen enough dropping back down but this time we've got 3 established PL teams with decent squads and money to spend. All hinges on them having the right manager but I think we might see 2 of them in the autos.

It can be hard to lose that losing mentality but it only takes a couple of games and/or someone to instil the belief that they are significantly better than the opposition to turn it around.

A newly relegated team has won the division for each of the last 3 seasons.

At least 1 of them will do well.

Only once in recent years (I've only gone back as far as our most recent promotion) have the 2 automatic places gone to newly relegated clubs. This was at the high of COvid, when the benefits of parachute payments were exaggerated further.

In only 1 season in that time (same season) have all 3 teams reached the play offs or finished higher.

I'd count on 1 relegated team getting automatic; I'd probably expect 1 to make the play offs and one to miss out. That's about par for the course.

I sometimes think the established PL clubs fall harder due to greater financial commitments.

Its always the case that the relegated clubs are tipped to be strong, but I think this year all three actually will be.

They all have strong squads and underperformed last season, given the talent, Leicester the most conspicuous example of that and even without two or three of their best players they will be very strong, more so given who they look to be bringing in.

Southampton invested in young talent last summer, so a year of experience in the PL will have brought them on and they could flourish in the championship.

Leeds are the ones who will find it hardest I think, they are restructuring and reorganising, but they will also have a bit of cash from a couple of player sales.

I think Leicester will spank the league in a similar way to Burnley.
Southampton seem chaotic behind the scenes. I think they've made a terrible appointment in Russell Martin. They'll be too busy trying to play football that they'll forget to win games and end up outside the playoffs.
Leeds will be fighting for a playoff spot I think.

I think Sunderland will do well next season.. Mogga is on a mission.
Leicester, Southampton & Leeds need to be in the mix, Boro have a great platform to build off. Coventry will need to replace Gyokeres

Norwich 13th , Preston 12th & Huddersfield 18th all improve their positions

Blackburn 7th, Swansea 10th & Watford 11th.. not so sure.. you would think Watford would have enough to make an appearance this season.

Prediction?

Sunderland
Middlesbrough

Leicester
Preston
Huddersfield
Leeds

Potentially Ipswich in the playoff mix and Millwall will be similar to last season.
Sheff Wed could spend as well?

As always, there's probably 16 teams with a chance of promotion.

Ipswich will need a good start to be up there at the end of the season. With the squad they currently have I just can't see them being more than mid table, could change with more signings. I think currently the bookies are spot on with Leicester Southampton, Leeds then us as favourites. With Norwich and WBA. I also think the bookies are right about relegation for Plymouth Rotherham and Huddersfield.

Didn't they have a 175m wage budget last year?
Yes they have let 7 players go on a free but that doesn't account for all the necessary reductions
Even if Tielemans was on 60k a week that's just a reduction of 3.1m
How come all this reinvesting doesn't come with re-added wages ?
Championship won't make sense if they going to have a 130+m wage budget and still sign off on FPP

Think Boro's on last recollection was 21/22 was 28.1m

My godson is in their 21s and says there is a genuine buzz in pre-season since the appointment of the new manager. Really wants them to play football (which the signings above would indicate)
